Registered Veterinary Technician

Position Overview Veterinarian Technician – responsible for providing veterinary care and customer service at Petco's Vetco Total Care hospitals. Key Responsibilities Greet clients and pets, escort to exam rooms, record vitals and patient history in the electronic medical record. Assist the veterinarian with routine and emergency appointments, surgeries, dentistry, and euthanasia under direct supervision. Perform patient restraint, collect and process laboratory samples, dispense medications, and maintain accurate electronic records. Schedule appointments, communicate results, manage inventory, and handle accounts receivable. Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, support anesthesia induction and monitoring, recover patients, and coordinate discharge. Administer injectable, oral, and intravenous treatments; keep patients clean, hydrated, and fed as directed. Walk canine patients for elimination when required. Participate in staff training and knowledge dissemination. Maintain hospital cleanliness and perform routine cleaning tasks. Provide backup phone and front‑desk support as needed. Other Duties Perform any additional duties assigned by the veterinary team. Education & Experience College or college‑equivalent education (completed) required for veterinary technician credentialing in the state of employment. At least 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a veterinary practice. Skills & Competencies Excellent written and verbal communication. Compassionate, professional demeanor during stressful situations. Basic telephone and computer proficiency. Team player willing to learn and adapt. Work Environment Full‑time in a Vetco Total Care hospital, involving bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 lbs, and extended standing. Regular direct contact with clients and pets.
