Specimen Technician

Job TitlePay Range: $19.00hr - $24.00hrRequirement/Must HaveHigh School diploma or equivalent.Basic understanding of computers.Ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.Availability for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as required.Ability to learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering.Ability to learn and understand specimen types related to ordered tests.ResponsibilitiesPerform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department including A-station, presort, and imaging.Pick up and deliver processed specimens to the laboratory.Perform centrifugation and aliquoting of specimens.Ensure all functions are performed with accuracy and in a timely manner.Maintain a neat and clean work area.Adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures.Work in a biohazard environment while practicing safe habits.Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.Nice To HavePreferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.Previous hospital laboratory experience.Previous experience in a production environment.SkillsSpecimen Processing.Data Entry.Alphanumeric Typing.Centrifugation.Aliquoting.Medical Terminology.Laboratory Safety.Qualification And EducationStrong organizational skills.Strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment.Flexibility and ability to adapt to change.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Physical RequirementsAbility to sit for long periods.Ability to stand for long periods.
