Sr. Specimen Technician - Hospital - Whittier, CA Schedule: Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM Pay Range: $20.44 - $30.65 / hour Salary offers are based on factors such as relevant skills, training, experience, education, and applicable certifications. The role requires advanced problem resolution skills and consistent, high‑quality customer service, including clear communication and collaboration. Responsibilities: Specimen Processing & Test Send Out Responsibilities Proficient in test ordering policies, hospital processing procedures, specimen requirements, sample preparation, Quantum, and compliance/legal requirements. Knowledge and competency of the Hospital LIS system (client specific). Print Quest‑performed testing reports. Interpret specimen flow/tracking data using available reports and resources. Manage supply ordering processes. Perform remote accessioning (pre‑accessioning) as required (client specific). Problem Resolution Responsibilities Troubleshoot and resolve issues for specimen types, missing information, TIQ, TNP, additional sample requests, and related client concerns. Manage Quest pending test status and interface test pending matters. Document data entry defects, maintain and report department quality data, including compliance audits and Best Practice Team reports. Identify and escalate quality/service trends to supervisors/managers when problems arise. Customer Service Responsibilities Manage inbound calls while maintaining a positive client interaction. Communicate and collaborate effectively with the Hospital Lab Manager and Quest Diagnostics sales team. Explain problem‑solving actions, test cancellations, testing requirements, and billing requirements to hospital staff. Notify about Test Down/Test Delay and Quanum downtime. Coordinate technical consultation for the laboratory. Relay client concerns to Quest Diagnostics supervisor and sales; participate in sales/operations account reviews. Qualifications: Required Work Experience 3–5 years of specimen processing experience in a laboratory. Preferred Work Experience Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory. Experience in a production environment. Physical and Mental Requirements Ability to perform data entry at approximately 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour. Work in a biohazard environment with proper safety practices. Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Skills Handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a production environment. Knowledge of Hospital LIS systems is a plus. Command of Microsoft Office Suite. Strong communication, collaboration, and problem‑solving skills in a client‑interfacing role. Effective data entry and use of Quest Diagnostics and hospital client systems. Communication with all staff levels. Maintain composure under pressure. Demonstrate good judgment in determining actions to resolve problems. Foster a positive interpersonal environment. Show flexibility and adaptability to change. Education High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required).
