Respiratory Therapist

Responsible for performing daily respiratory care procedures as assigned. Procedures include medication administration via aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, percussion, and postural drainage. Capable of managing non-invasive ventilation, mechanical ventilation, CPR, bedside pulmonary function screening, and arterial blood gases. Able to perform in emergency situations and provide intubation as applicable. Manages and assesses patients on mechanical and non-invasive ventilation. Educates patients and families about issues pertinent to their care on the ventilator. Follows through on relevant protocols. Manages ventilators for neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients according to protocols. Assesses the appropriateness of therapy and makes recommendations. Performs and instructs the effective administration of oxygen, aerosol medications, humidification, suctioning, and chest physiotherapy. Conducts effective airway management, supportive ventilation, and chest compressions during CPR. Administers medications and assesses patient responses. Obtains and processes arterial blood gases without direct supervision. Reports results without direct supervision. Performs and entry of orders in the electronic health record system. Completes department forms in a timely manner. Assists in the maintenance of all respiratory care equipment and troubleshoots as necessary. Cleans equipment during downtime. Follows department policies and procedures. Serves as a resource for nursing, physicians, and respiratory orientees and students. Evaluates, monitors, analyzes, and makes recommendations in quality improvement activities. Responds to all respiratory care pages in a timely manner. Assists with education programs to improve staff knowledge, attitudes, and skills. Complies with all relevant laws and regulations as well as requirements of accrediting bodies. Attends all required safety training programs and describes responsibilities related to safety. Ensures positive customer relations interactions. Manages difficult or emotional customer situations. Responds promptly to customer needs and solicits feedback to improve service. Meets commitments.
