Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
An exciting, rewarding opportunity is available for a dedicated Teacher for the Visually Impaired to provide essential vision services in a local school cluster near Essex, MD. This contract role is ideal for an experienced educator with a passion for supporting students with visual impairments in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
You’ll be joining an established team of Teachers for the Visually Impaired (TVIs) and Orientation & Mobility specialists, working primarily onsite. Your role will include direct student services based on IEPs, with the flexibility to attend all IEP meetings virtually from school premises, streamlining your day and minimizing travel. Placement and caseload assignment are tailored to your experience, especially your proficiency with Braille.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid teaching certificate with a Vision endorsement from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)
- Demonstrated experience as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired
- Strong skills in Braille (preferred), with placement options tailored to your expertise
- Familiarity with developing and implementing IEPs for students with visual disabilities
- Successful completion of required background checks, fingerprinting, and employment history review per House Bill 486
- Ability to work onsite at assigned school locations, with virtual participation in IEP meetings (from the school setting)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized vision services to students across a manageable cluster of schools
- Collaborate with educators, families, and multi-disciplinary teams to support student growth
- Attend and participate in IEP meetings virtually from school sites
- Adapt to varying caseloads and travel requirements based on skill set and student needs
This role offers consistent full-time hours (with part-time options discussed during the interview) for the 2026-2027 school year.
