As a Principal Software Engineer supporting our Digital Health Engineering Team, you will design, develop, and deliver scalable, secure, and high-performance enterprise applications with a primary focus on Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, and cloud-native backend services. You will also contribute to modern web application development using React.js, helping create seamless end-to-end user experiences. You will work closely with Product Owners, Solution Architects, DevOps engineers, and cross-functional teams. You will build innovative solutions, drive engineering excellence, mentor team members, and help shape the future of our digital platforms through modern technologies and best practices. In this role, a typical day will include:Continuously evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, tools, and development methodologies to drive innovation.Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance enterprise applications with a primary focus on backend services.Develop and enhance Microservices, APIs, and application components using Java, Spring Boot, and cloud-native technologies.Deliver high-quality software solutions that align with product roadmaps, business requirements, and architectural standards.Design and implement integrations, data flows, and interconnected business processes across enterprise platforms.Ensure application reliability, security, maintainability, and operational excellence through testing, code reviews, and engineering best practices.Collaborate with Product Owners, Solution Architects, and cross-functional teams to deliver new features and platform enhancements.Contribute to front-end development using React.js to create responsive and intuitive user experiences, with seamless integration to backend services.Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues throughout the application lifecycle.Participate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.Mentor junior engineers and champion software engineering best practices.WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON: Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school+13 yrs;Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+4 yrs; PhD+0 yrs)The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English.5 Years of Relevant Experience5+ years of experience developing enterprise-grade applications with strong expertise in backend engineering.Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, Spring Framework, and Microservices-based architectures.Experience building cloud-native solutions using AWS services and modern distributed system design principles.Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL and DynamoDB.Experience developing modern web applications using React.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
