Litigation Associate / Senior Associate / Counsel | Complex Fraud & Federal Litigation
$140k - $300kSolomon Page
Our client, a highly regarded Charlotte litigation boutique, is seeking an Associate, Senior Associate, or Counsel-level attorney to join its growing practice. The firm handles sophisticated, high-stakes disputes and investigations, with a particular focus on matters involving allegations of fraud. Its work spans civil and criminal litigation and includes banking and securities fraud, health care fraud, tax matters, qui tam and False Claims Act litigation, Ponzi and telemarketing schemes, FINRA matters, and other complex disputes.
This is an opportunity for a lawyer who genuinely enjoys digging into complicated factual and legal issues, conducting sophisticated research, and turning that analysis into excellent written work. The firm's matters are rarely formulaic. Attorneys are expected to think independently, engage deeply with federal law and procedure, and produce work product that can be relied upon with minimal rewriting. Lawyers who enjoy courtroom advocacy and depositions will have meaningful opportunities to gain hands-on experience and take on stand-up responsibilities, without having to wait for years to become the senior lawyer on a matter.
The firm typically has approximately at least a dozen active matters at any given time, with three to four matters receiving the majority of the team's focus at any point. Attorneys will work directly with the firm's founding partner on the firm's most active matters, with responsibility divided primarily between research/writing and courtroom work. Research and writing are particularly important, but attorneys should also be comfortable appearing in court and developing their advocacy skills.
The firm's practice is not limited to any particular industry or type of fraud. The right candidate will therefore be someone who finds fraud-related litigation intellectually interesting and can approach every matter and client with professionalism and an open mind. The firm represents clients facing serious allegations and complex legal problems; attorneys are expected to advocate zealously without being judgmental about the clients they represent.
The position is primarily in-office, five days per week, in the firm's South Park office in Charlotte. This is a demanding litigation practice rather than a lifestyle practice, but the firm offers meaningful responsibility and a significantly more direct path toward partnership than many larger firms. Homegrown associates can be considered for partnership after approximately five years with the firm, rather than following a lengthy lateral-partner-track process; experienced laterals would have an abbreviated runway to a look to partnership.
- $140,000–$300,000+, commensurate with experience and qualifications
Responsibilities:
- Conduct sophisticated legal research involving federal statutes, regulations, constitutional issues, and federal procedural law
- Draft high-quality briefs, motions, memoranda, appellate filings, and other substantive legal work produce
- Analyze complex factual records and develop legal theories in civil and criminal matters
- Assist with federal investigations, regulatory matters, and litigation involving agencies such as the SEC and other governmental bodies
- Prepare for and participate in hearings, conferences, depositions, oral arguments, and other courtroom proceedings
- Work directly with the founding partner on the firm's most active matters
- Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, government attorneys, and courts
- Manage assignments independently and produce polished work product with minimal supervision; and
- Develop increasing responsibility for matters as experience and demonstrated ability warrant.
Required Qualifications:
- J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials
- Admission to the North Carolina Bar, or eligibility for admission by waiver
- Demonstrated interest in complex litigation and the ability to engage deeply with difficult legal and factual issues
- Excellent legal research and writing skills, with the ability to produce a polished, finished work product
- Strong familiarity with federal law and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure
- Excellent judgment, attention to detail, and ability to work independently;
- Willingness to appear in court and develop substantial courtroom responsibility
- Professionalism and the ability to advocate effectively for clients across a wide range of circumstances and allegations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience litigating in federal court

- Prior experience at a federal agency, particularly in a litigation or enforcement role
- Judicial clerkship experience
- Admission to the South Carolina and/or Georgia Bar
- J.D. from a highly ranked law school or strong academic performance at a regional law school.
Compensation & Opportunity:
Base compensation is competitive with leading litigation boutiques in the Charlotte market and commensurate with experience and qualifications, with additional performance-based compensation tied in part to billable production.
The firm does not impose a rigid billable-hour threshold for good standing or bonus eligibility. Attorneys should nevertheless expect a substantive, demanding litigation practice with a workload generally consistent with approximately 1,750–2,100 billable hours in a typical year.
For attorneys joining from larger firms, the opportunity offers substantial responsibility, direct access to the firm's founding partner, and a materially shorter path to partnership than is typical for a lateral associate. Attorneys who demonstrate strong judgment, exceptional writing ability, and the capacity to handle increasingly sophisticated matters can assume significant responsibility early in their tenure.
If you are a strong writer who enjoys complex federal litigation, finds fraud-related matters intellectually engaging, and is looking for an opportunity to do sophisticated work in a close-knit litigation practice, please apply today.
