Position Overview Reporting directly to the Owner, the Chief Financial Officer will lead the full finance and accounting function while serving as a highly engaged business partner to operations. This is a hands-on executive role for a leader who can move comfortably between strategic decisions, financial analysis, team leadership, and the practical realities of a fast-paced transportation operation. The current CFO is retiring, and a meaningful training and knowledge transfer period will be provided. Core Mandate Own accounting, financial reporting, monthly and year-end close, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, treasury, tax coordination, audit support, and internal controls. Provide the Owner with clear, timely, decision-ready reporting and direct recommendations on profitability, capital deployment, risk, and growth. Partner with operations to improve visibility into fleet economics, equipment utilization, fuel, maintenance, labor, insurance, customer profitability, and capital expenditures. Strengthen working-capital discipline across receivables, payables, liquidity planning, banking relationships, and equipment financing. Evaluate and improve systems, reporting, dashboards, processes, and controls without adding unnecessary bureaucracy. Lead, develop, and hold the accounting team accountable while creating a collaborative, high-performance finance organization. Strategic Partnership with the Owner The CFO will be expected to operate as a trusted, candid, and commercially minded advisor. The right person will challenge assumptions respectfully, identify issues before they become problems, and translate financial information into practical business decisions. This individual must be comfortable working directly with entrepreneurial ownership and acting with an owner's mentality. Key Responsibilities Deliver accurate and timely financial statements, management reporting, forecasts, budgets, and cash-flow projections. Establish and monitor financial and operational KPIs that connect accounting results to day-to-day performance. Manage banking, lending, insurance, tax, audit, and other external financial relationships. Support equipment purchases, financing decisions, capital planning, and return-on-investment analysis. Assess customer, route, and service-line profitability and help leadership prioritize the most attractive opportunities. Ideal Candidate Profile 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including meaningful leadership responsibility. Current or former CFO, VP of Finance, or accomplished Controller ready to operate at the CFO level. Experience in trucking, transportation, logistics, distribution, or another asset-heavy operating business is strongly preferred. Strong command of financial reporting, cash management, forecasting, budgeting, banking, working capital, controls, and operational finance. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA or advanced degree is preferred but not required. Intellectually sharp, energetic, fast-moving, and decisive. Hands-on and unafraid to get into the details when necessary. Direct, confident, and willing to challenge ideas constructively. High accountability, high integrity, low ego, and strong follow-through. Comfortable in a fully in-office, entrepreneurial environment where speed and judgment matter.
