Food Service Worker
SUN Behavioral Houston
Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Dietary Services, will perform a variety of food services, including serving food to employees and visitors. Also, is responsible for the cleanup and stocking of the cafeteria and food preparation areas. Position Responsibilities: Clinical / Technical Skills (40% of performance review)
- Maintains serving line in a clean, neat and organized manner; requests replenishments as needed
- Serves hot and cold food on serving lines to visitors and employees.
- Replenishes the salad bar and keeps it clean.
- Replenishes silverware, napkins, cups straws, condiments, etc.
- Makes coffee; ensures coffee machines stay full and clean
- Ensures all beverage containers are full, i.e., soda, ice tea, juices.
- Clears any soiled dishes, trash from tables.
- Wipes down tables and chairs in the cafeteria throughout the day with a hospital-approved cleaner.
- Clears soiled dishes/trays; scrapes refuse into garbage containers; loads dishes/trays onto cleaning racks; rinses dishes/utensils.
- Disposes of trash/garbage in the appropriate manner
- Loads and operates dishwashers: trays, dishes, cups, silverware; inspects cleaning to assure quality.
- Puts clean dishes and utensils away.
- Washes specified items by hand: pots, pans, knives, etc.
- Cleans refrigerators, freezers and other cafeteria equipment.
- Mops floors as scheduled and as needed.
- Puts away stock inventory; notifies supervisor when stock item needs ordered.
- Performs special cleaning duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Maintains a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
- Treats patients/families/visitors with respect and dignity
- Observes infection prevention and control practices at all times; processes food items according to safe food handling procedures.
- Operates equipment safely and correctly.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Strives to create a safe, healing environment for patients and family members
- Follows all safety rules while on the job.
- Reports near misses, as well as errors and accidents promptly.
- Corrects minor safety hazards.
- Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace.
- Attends all required safety programs and understands responsibilities related to general, department, and job specific safety.
- Participates in quality projects, as assigned, and supports quality initiatives.
- Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
- Works well with others in a spirit of teamwork and cooperation.
- Responds willingly to colleagues and serves as an active part of the hospital team.
- Builds collaborative relationships with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
- The ability to retrieve, communicate, and present data and information both verbally and in writing as required
- Demonstrates listening skills and the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken and written word.
- Demonstrates adequate skills in all forms of communication.

- Supports and demonstrates fiscal responsibility through supply usage, ordering of supplies, and conservation of facility resources.
- Completes required trainings within defined time periods, as established by job description, policies, or hospital leadership

- Maintains confidentiality of patient and staff information, following HIPAA and other privacy laws.
- Ensures proper documentation in all position activities, following federal and state guidelines.
- Demonstrates accountability for ensuring the highest quality patient care for patients.
- Willingness to be accepting of those in need, and to extend a helping hand
- Desire to go above and beyond for others
- Understanding and accepting of cultural diversity and differences
- Required: High school diploma or GED. CPR and hospital-selected de-escalation technique certification.
- Preferred: Some college courses
- Maintains education and development appropriate for position.
- Required: Three years of experience in a food service line or restaurant setting
- Preferred: One year in a hospital dietary department. Previous experience in a behavioral health setting
