Assistant Nurse Manager - IRL Clinics

Assistant Nurse Manager – Iowa River Landing Clinic Percent of Time: 100% Schedule: 40 hours a week; Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and Saturday rotation 7:00 am to 12:00 pm. Additional hours as assigned. Rotations: Saturday and Sunday off. Location: Iowa River Landing Pay Scale: P&S Pay Plan Pay Grade: 5A Job Duties Human Resources Management Assist in hiring nursing unit staff through effective and timely recommendations. Develop and manage the talents, strengths and behaviors of assigned staff as directed by Nurse Manager. Assist in matters of promotion, transfers and disciplinary action, as directed by Nurse Manager. Coach staff to participate in team decision‑making and actively seek participation from assigned staff on decision-making and customer service improvement activities. Provide staff incentives/rewards for contributions towards achievement of service excellence. Employee Labor Relations Understand and apply appropriately the provisions in the union contracts. Create an atmosphere that provides effective recruitment and retention of qualified staff. Other Ensure that all employees are treated with respect and in a manner consistent with University policies related to equal employment opportunity. Encourage staff/employees to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations. Financial Management Actively help manage operating expenses for the Procedure and Infusion Suite by monitoring the unit/clinic’s operating budget. Recommend budget ideas, resources and cost containment strategies through participation in the development of the unit operating budget, reviewing staffing plan, reviewing service contracts, planning for new supply costs, etc. Assist the Nurse Manager in developing a staffing plan and be open to creativity in staff scheduling/flexibility. Operations, Standards of Care, Regulatory Compliance, Quality and Patient Satisfaction Collaborate with Nursing Management Team to identify Quality Management and patient satisfaction opportunities for improvement. Supply and Instrumentation management. Incorporate the principles of Service Excellence to ensure positive patient/customer relations. Implement and maintain standards and quality plans. Identify inefficiencies in current practice/processes, demonstrate tolerance for change and develop means to enhance the process. Consistently make sound judgments after gathering factual, objective information. Create and maintain a workplace of choice which motivates employees to work at optimal efficiency; encourage staff to regularly establish goals and objectives toward career development. Engage staff in meeting plan goals. Patient Care/Services Delivery Supervise care delivery and assist in coordinating patient care teams on the unit to maximize customer service and continuity of care. Assist the Nurse Manager in developing flexible staffing and reallocating priorities to ensure optimal patient care. Serve as a resource for patient care problems. May provide some patient care. Collaborate and develop effective interpersonal relationships with nursing staff, medical staff, interdisciplinary teams, and other hospital departments. Planning and Goal Management Collaborate with Nursing Management Team to develop and implement unit/clinic or division strategic plans. Use customer feedback in planning and providing service. Communication/Collaboration/Relationships Communicate with physicians, staff and other health care providers on a regular basis to promote effective and efficient operations within the unit/clinic. Communicate with patients, families, and staff to address and resolve issues. Utilize human resources data and budgetary information to formulate recommendation to Nurse Manager and Director or Clinical Services. Work directly with vendors to build and maintain relationships. Education Programs Provide evaluative feedback for staff members and health care students. Coach the staff in implementation of standards of care, professional development, promote staff specialty & clinical certifications, adhere to the standards of regulatory bodies (i.e., The Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory bodies as appropriate). Work with clinical instructors/educators to facilitate clinical education experiences. Invest in own continuous learning and skill enhancement. Research Administration Support unit evidence‑based practice research initiatives by facilitating the incorporation of quality management and evidence‑based practices in nursing care. Support changes in nursing care using evidence‑based practice. Education/Certification Requirements Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field is required. Current license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa is required by date of hire. Required Qualifications 1-3 years current experience in a leadership and/or management role. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to serve as a liaison and to collaborate with physicians, staff, patients, and other customers. Excellent problem‑solving skills, decision‑making, and critical‑thinking skills. Proficiency with computer software applications (such as Microsoft programs). Desired Qualifications Recent (within the last 3 years) experience in an outpatient clinical setting. Experience working in a union environment. Experience managing in an outpatient setting or in a procedural unit. Proven ability to work independently, using discretionary judgment. Ability to develop and foster a cohesive team, instilling a collaborative and positive culture and working environment. Knowledge of University of Iowa Health Care policies, procedures, and regulations. Demonstrated time management, organization of workload, delegation, attention to detail, and thoroughness.
