Alterations Specialist

Summary The Alterations Specialist produces high-quality altered merchandise within established time frames and delivers exceptional client service on the boutique floor. The role requires technical expertise with delicate fabrics and specialty techniques to fit, alter, repair, and construct garments to client specifications. The specialist collaborates with boutique staff to maintain organization, equipment, and accurate client records. Responsibilities Fit clients and determine required alterations to achieve proper garment fit and styling. Perform alterations and repairs such as hemming, mending, taking in or letting out seams, lengthening, and specialty work on leather, knits, and beaded pieces. Construct garments according to client specifications and maintain production standards and timing. Label and record client garments and manage client-owned pieces in the alterations workflow. Maintain and troubleshoot sewing machines, pressing equipment, and other tools; ensure equipment is in proper working order. Advise clients on styling and fitting; collaborate with boutique team and assist with in-store operational needs including opening/closing and inventory handling. Requirements Minimum five years of alterations experience in a luxury retail environment preferred. Sound knowledge of various fabrics and sewing techniques, including leather, knits, double-face, beading, and fine tailoring. Excellent client service and communication skills; service-minded and detail oriented. Ability to work under time constraints and maintain high standards of quality and organization.
