Maintenance Worker I

Salary: $33,400.00-$45,192.00 (or per the 2025-2026 Salary Schedule) Replaces: Benjamin Giles (resignation)

Job Description Qualifications: High School Diploma. Training and experience in a given trade such as heating/air conditioning, plumbing/boiler repair, electrical, carpentry, or painting. Or other appropriate certificates/licenses required by the District. Satisfactory Criminal Background Check. Note: Beginning January 1, 2026, new hires must be screened through the Clearinghouse.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of trades for assigned areas. Knowledge of and skill to use tools of the trades. Skill in reading, interpreting and applying information in technical manuals and other documents. Ability to perform routine duties guided by standard practices. Ability to take initiative to begin projects without supervision. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Ability to troubleshoot problems and implement corrective actions.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Repair and maintain all types of plumbing, both water supply and drain and/or sewer systems.
• Perform basic repairs to HVAC systems, coolers, freezer units, and ice machines.
• Perform all types of repairs to kitchen equipment both mechanical and electrical.
• Do carpentry jobs as needed including the building of new walls and doorways, repairing cabinetry and desks or existing structures, and building new structures.
• Change filters at all sites in the District.
• Maintain and repair electrical wiring and lights at all sites in the District.
• Maintain and repair door locks and door hardware at all sites in the District.
• Repair roof leaks at all sites in the District.
• Install automatic controls where needed.
• Weld and build products as needed.
• Assist in surplus pickup at all sites in the District.
• Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
• Ensure adherence to good safety standards.
• Model and maintain high ethical standards.
• Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
• Meet and deal effectively with the general public, staff members, students, parents, administrators and other contact persons using tact and good judgment.
• Participate successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
• Maintain proper care of tools and materials.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and administrators.
• Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
• Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
• Prepare all required reports and maintain all appropriate records.
• Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
• Exhibit interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
• Demonstrate support for the School District and its goals and priorities.
• Perform other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
• Shall assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.

Physical Requirements: Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.

Terms of Employment: Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
