Product Manager

Position Purpose: The Product Management Manager, Product COE is responsible for leading and developing a team of product managers who define and deliver the tools, workflows, and platform capabilities that shape how Home Depot's engineering organization builds software. Reporting into the Product Center of Excellence and partnering closely with Engineering & UX leadership, this leader ensures their team's product strategy is grounded in a deep understanding of Product, UX, and Engineer needs - from developer tooling and platform experience to workflow efficiency and technical enablement. This role owns talent development for their product managers, sets the bar for product craft and stakeholder engagement, and acts as the connective tissue between the Product COE's standards and the specific priorities of the Engineering Experience portfolio. Success in this role means a PM team that is technically fluent, outcome-driven, and trusted by engineering partners as a strategic extension of their own leadership. Key Responsibilities: 30% Strategy & Planning: Looks across product teams and feature sets with a focus on alignment and dependencies Gains a thorough understanding of customer and associate needs, both existing and potential, and uses that knowledge to help deliver enterprise products that provide Home Depot customers and associates with an unparalleled shopping experience Translates business goals and end user needs into product strategy and clearly communicates direction and product priorities to the product team and business partners Meets with users and stakeholders as needed to understand processes, pain points and system waste in order to identify where to improve the user experience Creates epics to drive improvements to product vision, features and back end systems, and adjusts for new business models Determines value to the business of anticipated product updates Identifies goals, metrics and appropriate analytics to measure the performance of products and continually makes recommendations and refinements to products based on learnings 40% Delivery & Execution: Reviews recommended solutions and work of product team to ensure products are aligned with company, stakeholder and end user priorities Documents, reviews and ensures that all quality and change control standards are met Removes roadblocks and obstacles that may impair product teams to help ensure delivery of the product in order to meet strategic, financial and technical goals Receives and prioritizes incoming requests from business partners and stakeholders while keeping in mind the business strategy, product vision and user needs Provides regular updates to leadership regarding progress of products within portfolio 30% People: Provides leadership, mentoring and coaching to Product Managers Attracts, retains and develops top talent to build a world class Product Management Team Conducts annual and mid-year reviews, reviewing individual development plans and providing performance feedback Fosters collaboration with team members (Engineering, UX, etc.) to drive value and identify and resolve impediments Acts as a proponent of modern software development practices Advocates for the end user and stakeholder by becoming associated with the product, empathizing with and understanding user needs Works with the product team to continuously assess progress, disseminate lessons learned and understand next steps Manages cross functional team and stakeholder expectations to execute on product strategy and provides education to requestors to determine prioritization based on tangible benefits and/or user experience Guides more junior team members in strategy, alignment, analysis and execution tasks Participates in and contributes to learning activities around modern software design and development core practices (communities of practice) Direct Manager/Direct Reports: Typically reports to the Product Management Sr. Manager, Technology Director or Sr. Director. Travel Requirements: Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time. Physical Requirements: Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles. Working Conditions: Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable. Minimum Qualifications: Must be eighteen years of age or older. Must be legally permitted to work in the United States. Preferred Qualifications: 5+ years of product management experience, including 2+ years directly managing product managers Demonstrated experience partnering with or working within engineering/platform/developer tooling organizations Strong technical fluency - comfortable in conversations about developer workflows, platform architecture, CI/CD, or internal tooling, even without a hands-on engineering background Experience presenting to and influencing senior technical and business leadership Proficiency in identifying goals, metrics, and analytics to measure product value - and translating complex data outputs into clear business narratives Proficiency working in a fast-paced, fluid environment where priorities shift regularly and ambiguity is high Proficiency communicating with and influencing both functional and technical team members at all levels of the organization Proficiency working as part of a collaborative, cross-functional modern product team spanning PM, Technology, UX, and Data Science Experience translating ambiguous business questions into structured data requirements that data science and engineering teams can execute against Proficiency in conducting user research and testing to understand stakeholder needs - including the needs of executive audiences consuming performance insights Experience conducting competitive research and analysis Comfort with data fluency expectations - able to interrogate analytical outputs, ask the right questions of data science partners, and maintain accountability for insight quality and accuracy Experience guiding more junior team members through Product Management fundamentals in a professional setting Experience balancing workloads across teams Proficiency in active listening and communicating at all levels while gracefully managing expectations across multiple stakeholders Experience managing and growing team members in a professional setting' Minimum Education: The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
