Faculty, College Readiness-CPWJob Description Summary:
Provide engaging instruction and academic support to Career Pathways students enrolled in workforce training or credit courses and teach Internationally Trained Professionals (ITP) classes. Instruction focuses on strengthening academic and English language skills, reinforcing course content and technical vocabulary, and preparing students for college and workplace expectations. Responsible to prepare and deliver coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to student success and creating an environment that promotes belonging for all. This position starts in January 2027.Instruction will be delivered in person at designated ACC regions—Central, North, and South campuses—and online, as assigned. Faculty must meet all professional standards in accordance with college policies and procedures. Nights and weekends are required.
Job Description:
Principal Responsibilities and Duties
Prepare and teach Career Pathways support courses and Internationally Trained Professionals (ITP) classes using in-person, hybrid, and online delivery aligned with approved learning outcomes.
Provide instruction that strengthens academic skills, English language proficiency, technical vocabulary, study strategies, and workplace readiness to support students enrolled in workforce training or credit courses.
Apply effective teaching practices and classroom management strategies to create a positive, accessible, and culturally responsive learning environment that promotes student engagement and retention.
Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback aligned with course learning outcomes and departmental expectations.
Participate in departmental responsibilities and governance, including curriculum development and revision, program review, and assessment of course and program learning outcomes.
Design, review, and refine Career Pathways and ITP curricula that connect instruction to students’ training, academic, and career goals.
Collaborate with training and credit faculty to align instructional support with course content, assignments, technical terminology, and student learning needs.
Evaluate instructional effectiveness and use student performance data to improve teaching practices and student outcomes.
Collaborate with intake, advising, and program teams to support student assessment, placement, enrollment, progress testing, and access to appropriate resources.
Support and mentor new Career Pathways faculty and share effective instructional practices with colleagues.
Provide accessible, individualized academic and language support, including one-on-one assistance.
Maintain accurate and timely attendance records, grades, and Blackboard course materials.
Collaborate with program leaders, faculty, and coordinators to promote course completion and successful transitions into further education, training, and employment.
Provide teaching and mentoring services without discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.
Remain current in adult education, integrated education and training, academic and language support, and career readiness through professional development.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or associate vice chancellor, vice chancellor, or executive vice chancellor.
Technology
Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, video creation, and other technologies for the classroom.
Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard Ultra to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.)
Principal Professional Standards
Appropriate use of the college's learning management system, Blackboard Ultra.
Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.
Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.
Attend and participate in college-wide, campus, department, or other activities and meetings.
Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.
Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree with Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), Applied Linguistics, Adult Education, Mathematics, English, Education, or related core content area At least 3 graduate hours in an appropriate education course focused on adult learners, educational pyschology, teaching developmental courses, or educational methods; OR 1 year experience teaching varied student populations, including ESL/ELL/ESOL, K-12, adult education, and higher education
Required Experience
1 year experience teaching varied student populations, including ESL/ELL/ESOL, K-12, adult education, and higher education.
OR At least 3 graduate hours in an appropriate education course focused on adult learners, educational psychology, teaching developmental courses, or educational methods.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in education or related field
Experience teaching within the School of College Readiness, ENGL, INRW, ESOL, or EDUC
Reading certification such as Neuhaus, Wilson or similar
Qualities of a Successful Candidate
Knowledge of adult learning theory and instructional methods
A strong commitment to engaging in classroom and online management best practices
Awareness of Texas College and Career Readiness Standards
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
Ability to build positive working relationships and serve as a student role model
Ability to exhibit creativity, patience, and flexibility in teaching approaches
Ability to apply ethics, integrity, and sound professional judgment.
A commitment to establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with students, colleagues, and staff representing multicultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Dynamic, non-traditional instructional delivery methods to teach students of widely varying levels of proficiency and from various backgrounds and abilities.
Appropriate and up-to-date knowledge of the discipline and subject matter.
Experience using technology as an instructional aide, where appropriate, to enhance learning.
Documented experience with active and applied teaching and learning methodologies.
A strong commitment to teaching in a community college setting, including teaching practices that reflect an understanding of the multicultural classroom and the benefits of cultural awareness and sensitivity in the classroom and the workplace.
Commitment to a culture of care for all.

Ability to communicate effectively with students with a wide range of skills and backgrounds.

Work is performed in the classroom, ACCelerator labs, or online environments.
Requires extended standing, walking, sitting, and reaching. Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
