Medical AssistantThis Medical Assistant role supports physicians and clinicians in a clinical oncology setting focused on women's health, including gynecologic and breast care. You assist with patient care activities, promote efficient patient flow for exams and procedures, and perform a variety of clinical and administrative tasks. You contribute directly to a high-quality patient experience by preparing patients and exam rooms, documenting clinical information, coordinating communication, and supporting daily clinic operations.ResponsibilitiesAssist physicians and clinicians with direct patient care in a clinical environment, particularly within an oncology practice focused on women's health, including gynecologic and breast care.Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms in a safe, respectful, and timely manner.Record patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes, ensuring accuracy and completeness in the medical record.Obtain all necessary patient records and documentation required by the physician prior to treatments, procedures, or consultations.Prepare and stock exam and treatment rooms with necessary supplies and equipment, and reorder supplies as needed to support uninterrupted patient care.Maintain exam and treatment room disinfection protocols, ensuring a clean, safe, and compliant clinical environment.Answer patient telephone calls and route inquiries appropriately to physicians, nurses, or pharmacists, providing courteous and timely communication.Phone in prescriptions and make other patient calls as directed by physicians and registered nurses, following established procedures and documentation requirements.Inform physicians promptly of patient schedule changes, including rescheduled appointments and no-shows, to support efficient clinic operations.Perform administrative duties such as typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, reception, and appointment scheduling as requested by supervisors or physicians.Use electronic medical records (EMR) systems to document patient information, manage schedules, and support clinical workflows.Support triage processes as directed, including gathering patient information and communicating concerns to clinical staff.Provide patient education within scope, reinforcing instructions from physicians and nurses and helping patients understand their care plan.Deliver professional, friendly customer service to patients, families, and colleagues, contributing to a supportive and compassionate care environment.Perform phlebotomy and related clinical tasks as needed and within scope of practice.Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure efficient outpatient clinic operations and a positive patient experience.Essential Skills1–3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential.Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification, or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.Proficiency in taking vital signs, including blood pressure, height, and weight.Experience working in an outpatient clinical environment.Ability to use electronic medical record (EMR) systems for documentation and scheduling.Strong skills in appointment scheduling and coordination.Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to outpatient and oncology care.Experience providing patient care and patient education within scope of a Medical Assistant.Competence in phlebotomy and basic clinical procedures.Ability to perform triage support tasks as directed by clinical staff.Strong customer service skills and a patient-centered approach.Effective communication skills, including answering phones and relaying messages accurately.Ability to perform administrative tasks such as typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, and reception duties.Basic Life Support (BLS) skills consistent with BCLS certification requirements.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent.Experience in an oncology office, particularly with a focus on women's health, including gynecologic and breast care.Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential is beneficial.Experience working in a busy outpatient clinic with multiple providers.Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.Comfort working closely with patients undergoing oncology care and related procedures.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with patients and clinical team members.Work EnvironmentThis role is based in an oncology office that focuses on women's health, including gynecologic and breast care, within an outpatient clinical setting. Typical hours are approximately 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with certain clinic and procedure days starting as early as 7:15 a.m., when you are expected to arrive if needed to support patient care. You work closely with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other clinical and administrative staff. The environment involves regular use of electronic medical records, standard clinical equipment, and exam/treatment rooms that must be prepared and disinfected according to protocol. The role may require occasional travel to another office location as needed to support clinic operations. Professional clinical attire is expected, appropriate for a patient-facing oncology and women's health practice.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockville, MD.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $25.00/hr.Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
