Sonographer - St. Bernard Parish Hospital - PRN

Job Summary In collaboration with staff radiologists, this role independently performs advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. The position serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students. Education Required: Completion of a CAHEA approved formal training program in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Work Experience Required: None. Preferred: 2 years of sonographer experience. Certifications Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or registry eligible (required within 1 year of hire). Advanced certification in area(s) of specialty according to facility need. Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information. Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard. Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process. Knowledge of anatomy of liver, gallbladder, aorta, spleen, kidneys, bile ducts, and pancreas for abdominal ultrasound and related pathology. Job Duties Verify physician order and procedure to assure accuracy. Utilize radiology information systems to facilitate care. Explain procedure to patient to ensure understanding. Independently operate equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol, including assisting radiologists in guided procedures. Review patient images prior to transmission to ensure diagnostic quality standards. Complete timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards. Assist in facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.). Adapt behavior to specific patient population, respecting privacy and communication style. Perform other related duties as required. Physical and Environmental Demands Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires mobile activity, lifting, bending, stooping, and manual dexterity. Flexible schedule required (24/7, weekend, holiday, on call).
