Sr Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer/Surgical Robotics-OTTAVA

Johnson & Johnson seeks a Senior Manufacturing Mechanical Engineer to lead manufacturing engineering for the OTTAVA surgeon input device, a precision electromechanical control subsystem for surgical robotics. The role spans new product introduction, assembly, calibration, testing, and industrialization of multi-axis controls and integrated electronics.

Responsibilities

Lead new product introduction, assembly, calibration, testing, and validation for the OTTAVA surgeon input device
Design and own assembly processes for precision mechanical subassemblies, links, joints, motors, encoders, and integrated electronics
Develop assembly sequence logic controlling system error, friction, preload, and cumulative variation across device workspace
Define and validate datum schemes, fixturing strategies, and manufacturing processes for reliable production at scale

Requirements

Deep expertise in precision electromechanical device design and manufacturing
Hands-on experience with assembly, calibration, and testing of surgical-grade haptic mechanisms
Knowledge of regulated medical-device manufacturing requirements and processes
Proficiency in multi-degree-of-freedom mechanisms, motors, encoders, sensors, and cable or gear-driven systems
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in fast-paced manufacturing environments
Experience translating design intent into scalable production processes
