Staff Nurse (RN) - Stroke and General Rehabilitation

Scope of Position The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s mission is to improve health in Ohio and across the world through innovation in research, education, and patient care. The staff nurse plays a critical role in staff engagement, the patient experience, quality and safety, and cost‑effective care. Position Summary The Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and their family, directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team, and assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating, and evaluating nursing care of patients in alignment with the professional practice model. Responsibilities Utilize med‑surg skills including trach management, wound care, wound vacs, burn dressings, intermittent cathing, bowel programs, line and port management. Provide patient and caregiver education. Participate in an interdisciplinary team. Minimum Qualifications 2‑year college degree in nursing from a CCNE or ACEN accredited program is required. Bachelor’s degree in nursing with a major in Nursing from a CCNE or ACEN accredited program is preferred. Current Ohio license or interim permit is required. 2 years of experience in a rehabilitation or acute care setting is preferred. On‑Going Qualifications / Requirements Maintains current Ohio RN license, meets mandatory educational and health requirements, and demonstrates necessary computer skills. Additional Information We are an Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (unit of University Hospital) on the 4th floor with 29 beds. Our patient population includes Stroke and General Rehabilitation, burns, transplants, cardiac issues, orthopedics, and other conditions. Patients admitted are 16 years or older. The unit uses a 1:5 nurse‑to‑patient ratio with flexibility to 1:4 for high‑acuity rehab patients, including telemetry, continuous pulse oximetry, infectious workup, and care for complex patients.
