Position Title: Assistant Manager Reports to: Store Manager Department: Store Operations FLSA: Non-Exempt Position Summary The CO‑Manager is directly responsible for all non‑merchandising areas of the store, including: backroom functions (receiving, processing, maintenance, organization, layaway); front‑end functions (POS registers, service desk, cash office); and HR/Admin functions (hiring, staffing, paperwork). The CO‑Manager acts as the Store Manager in their absence and has total responsibility for the store. Partnering with the Store Manager, the CO‑Manager is involved in all aspects of store operation, ensuring full staffing, adherence to policies and procedures, and improvement of volume, profit, shrink, employee retention, and merchandising standards. Principle Duties and Responsibilities Meet or exceed budgeted sales daily and drive all company KPIs. Deliver weekly payroll at or below budget by scheduling staff appropriately and recording payroll accurately. Organize and direct daily activities across operations, merchandise, loss prevention, and personnel functions in partnership with the Store Manager. Conduct store operational audits to ensure adherence to policies and procedures. Recruit, hire, and train all store personnel to build and maintain an “A” team; maintain staffing according to guidelines. Evaluate, counsel, and discipline personnel based on performance, partnering with the Store Manager. Ensure flawless execution of all company initiatives, including: Ad Sets Markdowns Freight processing Detail recovery Weekend readiness All other company initiatives Ensure outstanding customer service by ensuring all team members greet, assist, and thank customers positively; resolve customer issues professionally and timely. Communicate policies, procedures, advertising, and pertinent information to staff. Audit operational controls to ensure policy adherence. Help deter theft by maintaining visible management presence and modeling respectful customer service. Facilitate all repair and maintenance issues immediately and communicate with the District Manager to resolve them timely. Position Requirements Ability to work varied hours/days, including 2–3 nights per week, weekends, and holidays. Ability to work at different locations in and around the city at the District Manager’s discretion; potential overnight accommodations for new store openings, cleanups, and inventory. Transfers to other stores within the market may occur; flexibility required. Effective communication skills for conveying company policies, training materials, and directives. Basic math proficiency for register operation, making change, and inventory. Ability to lift up to 40 lbs regularly and up to 70 lbs occasionally with proper fitness for walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, and repetitive lifting. Minimum Requirements Must be 18 years or older. High School Diploma or Equivalent. 5+ years of management experience with operations and merchandising in a big‑box retail environment; soft‑lines experience preferred. Financial and retail management skills, with experience building and motivating a high‑performing, diverse team. Leadership skills and the ability to recruit, develop, and retain top performers. High energy, hands‑on leadership style. Excellent people skills.
