Summary

The nurse will provide care according to department protocols and Massachusetts regulations, exercising autonomy within established guidelines, and will refer issues to supervisory personnel as necessary.

Responsibilities

• Fulfill job-specific/unit-specific competencies, with details provided by the unit manager or staff educator.
• Collect and analyze patient health data relevant to age and specialty.
• Develop a nursing care plan focusing on individualized patient outcomes and nursing diagnoses.
• Implement nursing interventions to achieve expected outcomes.
• Evaluate progress towards patient outcomes.
• Report notable changes in patient conditions to physicians promptly.
• Offer support to patients and families, assisting them in coping with illness-related stress.
• Provide support to terminal patients compassionately and professionally.
• Review and ensure nursing practice meets professional standards and healthcare regulations.
• Maintain current knowledge and competence in patient care practices.
• Engage with peers and healthcare providers to foster professional growth.
• Make ethical decisions that prioritize patient welfare.
• Collaborate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams to enhance care.
• Incorporate clinical inquiry and research into practice.
• Factor in safety, cost, and effectiveness when planning and delivering care.
• Comply with established nursing and hospital policies and procedures.
• Function independently or with minimal supervision.
• Engage in continuing education to uphold nursing standards in line with Massachusetts requirements.

• Perform additional duties as needed, including leadership roles during the absence of the nurse manager.
