Referral Representative I

Pay Range: $16.85/hr - $21.85/hr

The Referral Representative I is responsible for processing specimens, coordinating referral testing activities, supporting client inquiries, reporting laboratory results, and ensuring compliance with laboratory quality, safety, and regulatory standards.

This role requires strong attention to detail, customer service skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment.

Minimum one to two years of clinical laboratory experience.

Customer service and/or medical background preferred.

Retrieve, sort, and process specimens for shipment to referral laboratories.

Ensure specimen quality and accuracy by identifying issues such as incorrect specimen types, missing information, improper temperature conditions, and insufficient quantities.

Prepare specimens and packages for shipment in accordance with applicable transportation regulations.

Maintain and file departmental documentation.

Handle customer inquiries regarding test results, service issues, and quality concerns.

Report laboratory results using established protocols.

Contact clients to resolve routine or technical matters related to patient testing and result reporting.

Perform investigations and provide resolution for complex referral testing issues.

Research test availability and identify appropriate referral testing vendors.

Assist client services, customers, and sales teams by responding to questions and concerns in a timely manner.

Communicate tests not performed and laboratory incidents to clients and document all communications thoroughly.

Identify and escalate reportable quality incidents to supervisors.

Maintain a safe, functional, and sanitary work environment.

Adhere to laboratory safety, privacy, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Utilize personal protective equipment and follow established safety procedures.

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Basic understanding of client services and specimen processing operations.

Thorough understanding of referral testing processes.

Basic knowledge of medical terminology applicable to clinical laboratory environments.

Ability to stand and work for extended periods.

Ability to handle biological samples and potentially hazardous chemicals.
