Overview POSITION SUMMARY The Physical Therapist I/II / Advanced Physical Therapist I/II position serves to provide quality physical therapy services to a predominately Native American population for the treatment or prevention of physical disability or disease. Responsible for management and implementation of Physical Therapy program; provision of physical therapy evaluation and outpatients, ages ranging from birth through geriatric; provision of specialty services such as wound care, prosthetic and orthotic clinic, high school clinic, functional clinic, assistive technology/adaptive equipment evaluation/treatment, Durable Medical Equipment Prosthetic Orthotic Supply Program; assumes direction and development of the physical therapy section to include continuing quality improvement, risk management and safety, physical therapy policies and procedures; Joint Commission preparation, staff education, reporting, staff meeting and in-service, and other duties. Responsibilities also include that listed on the Medical Staff Credentialing Core Privileges form. Qualifications NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS Education (Physical Therapist I/II & Advanced Physical Therapist I/II) Bachelor’s degree from the Commission of Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accredited school of Physical Therapy Licensure (Physical Therapist I/II & Advanced Physical Therapist I/II) Must possess a valid, current, full and unrestricted license in any state within the United States, District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico during tenure of employment Must have and maintain a current valid certification of the following throughout employment: Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association Credentialing Must be credentialed to serve on the Medical Staff. All related information required for credentialing must be provided. Experience Physical Therapist I N/A Physical Therapist II A minimum of one (1) year experience as a licensed Physical Therapist Advanced Physical Therapist I A minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a licensed Physical Therapist Advanced Physical Therapist II A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a licensed Physical Therapist and/or APTA Board Certification Specialist as a licensed Physical Therapist Other Skills and Abilities A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas: Positive working relationships with others Possession of high ethical standards and no history of complaints Reliable and dependable; reports to work as scheduled without excessive absences Proficient with the Microsoft Suite applications – Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Access Strong interpersonal skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills Solid analytical, creative and problem-solving abilities; ability to assist, direct and coordinate with others Ability to work in an organized, efficient manner with a high-level of accuracy, attention to detail and timely follow-through Possess expertise in communication, interpersonal, organizational leadership and team building skills Time management skills and the ability to consistently meet deadlines, while maintaining work quality Must have the ability to multi-task and handle a hectic work environment effectively Aware of the impact of job duties pertaining to the overall quality of patient care and safety and efficiency of the clinic Completion of an above-satisfactory scores on all job interviews, demonstrating to the satisfaction of the interviewees and TCRHCC that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job Successful completion of and positive results from all background and reference checks, including positive employment references from authorized representatives of past and current employers demonstrating to the satisfaction of TCRHCC a record of satisfactory performance and that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job Successful completion of fingerprint clearance requirements, physical examinations, and other screenings indicating that the applicant is qualified to be employed by TCRHCC and demonstrating to the satisfaction of TCRHCC that the applicant can perform the essential functions of the job Submission of all required employment-related documents, applications, resumes, references, and other required information free of false, misleading or incomplete information, as determined by TCRHCC. PROBLEM SOLVING Must be able to evaluate, analyze, and address a broad, complex range of problems typically found in a busy physical therapy clinic. Mastery of physical therapy principles, theories, concepts and clinical skills in all areas in order to provide consultation, advice, direction and assistance to patients, families, and other health care providers. To formulate appropriate patient treatment plan(s); incorporate into practice the departmental policies, procedures and guidelines. Excellent interpersonal skills expressed effectively and compassionately with patients, family members, medical staff and other community members to handle complaints, settle disputes, conflict resolution, and/or negotiating with others. Strong verbal communication skills as well as report writing skills; Ability to provide compassionate and professional health care. MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EFFORT The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical Work requires prolonged walking, standing, sitting, bending, talking or hearing, use of hands to finger to handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, bending and occasional pushing/pulling with the intermittent need to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste or smell. Agility and the ability to lift, pull and bend are required to move patients to and from beds, equipment, and supplies of up to 50lbs. Must be able to handle considerable lifting, pushing, pulling and performance of therapeutic exercise programs for minimally to severally physical impaired patients. Must have to ability to hear alarms on equipment, client calls and instructions from physicians/department staff. This position has the following vision requirements; close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Position does require prolonged repetitive use of both hands, grasping simple/light of both hands and fine dexterity as well as occasional repetitive use of both feet and grasping firm/heavy of both hands. Mental Must be able to work with a high degree of independence in judgment, planning and carrying out complex treatment objectives based upon their professional knowledge and experience plus exercises tact, good judgment and persuasiveness with patients, management and providers. Work in a fast-paced environment with allotted time of patient care appointments in various clinical settings. Environmental This job requires exposure to the following environmental conditions, working near moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The typical noise level is moderate. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Incumbent performs professional work requiring the application of knowledge in the concepts, principles and practices of Physical Therapy for the treatment or prevention of physical disability or disease. Incumbent is responsible for a high degree of professional competence, skill and judgment in assessment, planning and carrying out the full range of treatment modalities, patient education and discharge planning of a variety of inpatient and outpatient situations. Treatment objectives are complex, and procedures involve application of highly specialized skills and knowledge. Provides consultation to medical or clinical staff on matters pertaining to physical therapy and/or patient progress. Incumbent exercises tact, good judgment and persuasiveness when dealing with these individuals. Provides and assures quality patient care. Participates in clinical research efforts and assists in specialty clinics. Assists the supervisor and staff in all aspects of Physical Therapy Services and administrative tasks as assigned. Responsible for electronic health records data entry pertinent to patient service role prior to duties as assigned or where it is appropriate to place. Ensure proper PPE is always worn while on duty including but not limited to face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator or higher, if available), and eye or face shield. Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. (see CDC website for most current updates) Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee and external customer satisfaction. Participation in therapy student program as clinical instructor, Advanced Physical Therapist II – patient care within specialty scope of practice according to board certification. Education (Physical Therapist I/II & Advanced Physical Therapist I/II) Maintain and/or obtain training, certification, or continuing education requirements for licensure and/or other specialties. Provide information to staff. Assist with direction and coordination of educational programs; assist with training and in-service in physical therapy techniques for physical rehabilitation technicians, students, volunteers, and hospital staff. Counsel patients, family members, and care providers on all patient education, safely and effectively, of material pertaining to plan of care/ therapeutic intervention. Advanced Physical Therapist II – maintain all requirements for specialty scope of practice according to board certification. Performance Improvement (Physical Therapist I/II & Advanced Physical Therapist I/II) Identify and report any departmental issues pertaining to patient care, process flow, provider interaction, supplies, and other issues that create inefficiencies or dissatisfaction. Identify area for improvement to reduce the risk of patient care injury and to enhance departmental operations. Evaluate clinical skills as needed to enhance patient care and department operations. Maintain recommendations upon identifying area needing of improvement. Re-evaluate needs for further improvement. Participate on hospital committee as a representative for physical rehabilitation services. Provide and receive information for departmental improvement, disseminate information and offer implementation at the department level.
