Instructional Assistant

Summary We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Instructional Assistant at Head Start (TEAC). The successful candidate will support the educational and developmental needs of young children in a nurturing and stimulating environment. This role involves working closely with lead teachers to facilitate learning activities, provide individualized support, and ensure a positive classroom experience for all students. Responsibilities Assist lead teachers in implementing lesson plans and educational activities that promote cognitive, social, and emotional development in young children. Provide one‑on‑one and small group support to students, helping to reinforce learning concepts and skills. Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and participation, providing feedback to teachers to inform instructional practices. Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that encourages exploration and creativity. Assist with classroom management, ensuring that students adhere to behavior expectations and fostering a positive learning atmosphere. Support the preparation and organization of classroom materials and resources for daily activities. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to foster a collaborative learning environment. Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge. Help with the supervision of students during transitions, recess, and other non‑instructional times. Uphold the values and mission of Head Start (TEAC) while promoting a culture of respect and inclusivity. Requirements High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree in early childhood education or a related field is preferred. Previous experience working with young children in an educational or childcare setting is highly desirable. Strong understanding of child development principles and best practices in early childhood education. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and colleagues. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take direction from lead teachers. Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the learning and growth of young children. Basic computer skills and familiarity with educational technology. Must pass background checks and comply with all health and safety regulations. CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
