Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct patient care in ambulatory settings. Patient care may be a direct activity of the RN, or it may be to coordinate and supervise patient care provided by assistive personnel. Utilizes a systematic approach to nursing practice incorporating assessment, planning, nursing diagnosis, implementation, and evaluation in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, recognized professional standards and Park Nicollet Health Services policy. Previous experience preferred in the designated area.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination: Associates/Diploma nursing degree
  • Licensure/ Registration/ Certification: Valid Minnesota Registered Nurse License BLS provider status in accordance with American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Proven proficiency in the operation of the following: Personal Computer, Telephone, Fax Machine, Photocopier, Printer, and electronic medical record. This position requires familiarity and compliance with matters of law, regulations and internal policies affecting the employment relationship, (including but not limited to FMLA, ADA, discrimination, and harassment laws). Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and assure safety of patients.

Essential Duties

  1. Develop and initiate plan of patient care using an outcomes-based approach ensuring application of age-related growth and development principles.
  2. Coordinate, oversee, deliver, and delegate nursing care based on patient assessment/standards of care.
  3. Direct, evaluate, and supervise the work of assistive personnel in providing delegated nursing services, and development principles.
  4. Document, reassess and alter plan of care based on patient's response to nursing interventions on an ongoing basis.
  5. Communicate pertinent patient data to other members of the health care team in a timely fashion.
  6. Collaborate/coordinate with other health care team members, patient, and family members to determine necessary resources (social services, home care, type of equipment, information, etc.) and provide continuity of patient care.
  7. Assess learning needs of patients and provide comprehensive, individualized health care teaching to patient and family.
  8. Seek opportunities to incorporate research into daily practice.
  9. Plans and implements staffing based on patient acuity and census.
