Job Description

The MEP Superintendent organizes, manages, and controls assigned projects to ensure that budget, quality, schedule, and safety objectives are consistently met. This role directly oversees field operations for a data center project in Barstow, TX, managing site productivity, subcontractor and supplier coordination, and day-to-day jobsite activities in close partnership with the Project Manager. The MEP Superintendent reports to the VP of Field Operations and works closely with Project Management to deliver high-performing, safe, and well-coordinated MEP construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise throughout the preconstruction process, supporting accurate planning and coordination.
  • Develop jobsite logistics plans and ensure they support efficient and safe field operations.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and identify opportunities to improve buildability and reduce risk.
  • Assist in developing and managing the preconstruction schedule, aligning field expectations with project milestones.
  • Develop and organize the field team, including arranging temporary facilities, utilities, and other site needs.
  • Manage day-to-day operations at the jobsite, including sequencing of work, logistics, and safety oversight.
  • Direct workflow in accordance with the project schedule and adjust activities to maintain progress.
  • Communicate priorities clearly to subcontractor staff and monitor project progress against targets.
  • Create detailed logs and daily reports of construction activities, documenting work performed and key events.
  • Review plans and specifications for constructability and advise the project team of issues or deficiencies.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to develop and maintain the project progress schedule, ensuring methods and sequences are practical and followed in the field.
  • Identify long-lead items and work with the management team to track procurement and delivery.
  • Ensure complete, accurate daily documentation of work in place and maintain organized records.
  • Maintain accurate contract documents at the site and ensure all supplemental information, RFI responses, and changes are documented and posted to the site set of plans and specifications.
  • Develop and maintain an accurate set of record documents to be incorporated into project closeout documentation.
  • Maintain a safe and secure jobsite at all times and promote a culture of Zero Injury.
  • Ensure job safety requirements are understood and implemented by all project personnel and trade contractors, using safety support personnel as a resource.
  • Ensure any accidents or incidents are promptly reported and investigated, and assist during safety inspections by outside agencies.
  • Lead on-site safety meetings and ensure all workers receive appropriate safety training or review prior to starting work.
  • Review trade contractors’ safety programs and MSDS information during trade contractor start-up meetings.
  • Monitor the jobsite for safety hazards, correct unsafe conditions, and report safety incidents to safety personnel and/or Project Management.
  • Understand the owner’s goals regarding construction and communicate them clearly to all field personnel.
  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with the owner, architect, and other project stakeholders throughout the project.
  • Represent the organization in a professional manner through conduct, appearance, and demeanor, acting as an ambassador on assigned projects.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the general contractor and subcontractors to resolve issues and maintain alignment.
  • Lead and participate in schedule meetings to review progress, address constraints, and update field activities.
  • Oversee quality assurance and quality control activities to ensure work meets project specifications and standards.
  • Manage subcontractor performance in the field, including coordination, sequencing, and adherence to safety and quality requirements.

Essential Skills

  • High school education required.
  • 1–5 years minimum experience or equivalent in a construction superintendent role.
  • Experience working on data center construction projects.
  • Strong competency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook for email and calendar scheduling.
  • Familiarity with construction management software such as Procore, MS Project, Adobe, and Bluebeam.
  • Procore experience for project and field management.
  • Ability to read and expertly understand building plans and specifications.
  • Demonstrated experience in construction management, including coordination of MEP trades.
  • Experience with quality assurance and quality control on construction projects.
  • Experience in safety management, including leading safety meetings and enforcing safety requirements.
  • Ability to manage communication between general contractor and subcontractors effectively.
  • Experience in subcontractor management and coordination of multiple trades.
  • Ability to lead and manage schedule meetings and drive adherence to project timelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting, documentation, and stakeholder coordination.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively with field supervision, project management, and administrative staff.
  • OSHA 10 Hour certification required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Completion of vocational school is a plus.
  • College degree is a plus.
  • OSHA 30 Hour certification preferred.
  • Experience working on data center projects in remote or rotational schedules is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational skills for maintaining accurate contract documents and record drawings.
  • Ability to develop jobsite logistics plans and support preconstruction planning.
  • Experience participating in constructability reviews and identifying design or coordination issues.
  • Comfort using digital tools such as Adobe and Bluebeam for document review and markups.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive relationships with owners, architects, and project stakeholders.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance, with the ability to represent the organization positively on site.

Work Environment

This role is based on site at a data center project in Barstow, TX, with a rotational schedule of three weeks on and one week remote. The position involves a combination of office and field work, including jobsite walking and regular presence in active construction areas. The work environment ranges from quiet to moderate noise levels in office spaces to typical construction site conditions outdoors and indoors. The role requires the ability to sit for extended periods to perform computer-based tasks, talk and hear clearly, and use fine motor skills for keyboard, telephone, and writing activities. It also requires frequent standing, walking, and reaching with arms and hands, as well as visual abilities including close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Travel is required as dictated by project needs, and a rental vehicle is provided to support project-related transportation. The position includes a per diem for food and lodging during on-site rotations and offers a completion bonus based on base pay, contributing to an attractive overall compensation package.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $115000.00 - $125000.00/yr.

-$800 vehicle allowance -$2000 HSA card with benefits -20% bonus based on project completion -The 401(k) match is 100% of your salary deferrals that do not exceed 3% of your compensation plus 50% of your salary deferrals between 3% and 5 % of your compensation subject to the plan documents.
