JOB DESCRIPTION - Alameda Health System is recruiting an Orthopedic Hand Attending Physician to serve the Level 1 Trauma Center, Highland Hospital, as well as the two community acute care facilities, San Leandro and Alameda Hospitals. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Education : Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) is required.
Minimum Experience : Completion of an approved residency in an appropriate specialty.
Required : Board Eligible or Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery with appropriate technical skills to manage both acute and subacute Level 1 Musculoskeletal Trauma and General Orthopedic pathology.
Required Licenses/Certifications : Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California.
Valid Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Number
Pay Range: $262.66/Hour - $273.18/Hour
The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization. Alameda Health System also offers eligible positions a generous comprehensive benefits program.

Job responsibilities - The types of injuries that the provider will need to stabilize and potentially definitively treat include but are not limited to:
- Open fractures
- Patients with polytrauma and multisystem injuries
- Periarticular Fractures
- Osteomyelitis and any other Musculoskeletal Infections (Including Hand Infections)
- Nonunion and Malunion
- Traumatic Amputations
- Severe Upper or Lower Extremity Skeletal and Soft Tissue Injuries
- Geriatric Fractures and Injuries
- General Orthopedic Fractures and Injuries
- Chronic Orthopedic pathology
The call duties are including but not limited to:
- Providing the highest level of care that meets the standard of the community at all times
- Complying with the rules and regulations put forth by the Medical Staff
- Understand the team approach to providing care while taking a leadership role in operations for the Orthopaedic Team.
- Being available by phone/pager for communication during the scheduled work and the on-call period.
- Confirming the resident physician who will be concomitantly covering call for the site(s) that participate in resident education.
- If the on-call provider is not assigned to be working in the operating room or clinic at a specific hospital during the AM and PM blocks, he or she must be available to be present at that site at 5:00pm to perform add-on cases or staff consultations as necessary.
- A formal communication/handoff between the attending who was on call the previous night and the attending rounding in the AM on the inpatient service.
- Being involved in the development of a treatment plan for every new Orthopaedic patient
- Assisting with any discharges that need to take place as needed
- Seeing all ED and Inpatient Consults that are requested during the call period
- Communicating with the attendings from the other services to assure clear plans for any patients where co-management is taking place.
- Supervising USCF-Stanyan Orthopaedic surgery residents, Highland emergency department residents and other medical learners at various skill and training levels.
- Punctual attendance to assigned ambulatory and operative blocks
- Providing the highest level of care that meets the standard of the community at all times
- Complying with the rules and regulations put forth by the Highland Medical Staff
- Completing appropriate training for the Alameda Health System electronic medical record system (Epic)
- Using the electronic medical system to ensure accurate and timely coding/billing for all in-patient consultations, out-patient consultations and procedures performed.
- Timely completing all medical records that are assigned to the provider.
- Turning in monthly call invoices by the designated time
- Potentially being available to be called in to assist in providing care in any mass-casualty situations or natural disasters.
