General Maintenance Worker

Location Oak Ridge, Tennessee – Department of Energy Position Overview General Maintenance Worker (Non-Exempt, Full-time, Day Shift). Responsibilities include performing facility maintenance tasks, operating power tools, forklifts, and vehicles; maintaining safety and quality standards; assisting skilled workers; and providing customer service. Compensation: $27.18 per hour. Assist skilled workers in electrical, carpentry, plumbing, or masonry work. Maintain and upkeep buildings, grounds, and equipment. Operate power tools safely (circular saw, miter saw, reciprocating saw, hand and impact drills, hand saw, router, chain saw). Operate a forklift to move materials. Operate a vehicle with a trailer attached. Communicate with customers, informing them of repairs and needs. Respond to customer inquiries and complaints. Ensure completed work meets quality control standards. Diagnose issues and suggest solutions to customers. Update scheduler on status of repairs and estimate completion dates. Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, roadways, parking areas, emergency exits, and fire hydrants; treat roadways and walkways as needed for safety. Pick up and dispose of trash, debris, cigarette butts, and litter around dumpsters, loading docks, and patios daily. Police range facility for debris, including sorting and removal of small arms brass casings after live fire operations. Control insects, rodents, and pests; protect health, supplies, grounds, and property. Maintain professionalism in appearance and demeanor. Qualifications Five (5) years of facilities maintenance experience preferred. Valid forklift certification or ability to obtain one required. Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods and in all weather conditions. Physical Requirements Lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Reach, kneel, walk, stand, and perform repetitive motion for several hours at a time. Walk or climb in and out of a vehicle, up and down stairs, and may stand or sit for extended periods. Work effectively under pressure for extended periods. Additional Requirements Valid state driver’s license, with coverage under Tessera’s insurance. Obtain and maintain security clearances and installation access; background check and E‑Verify required.
