Assistant Professor of Secondary Education History/Social Studies (1-Year Limited)

Rhode Island College invites applications for a full-time, 1-Year Limited Assistant Professor of Secondary Education History/Social Studies. This academic-year position begins in Fall 2026. The Department of Educational Studies at Rhode Island College invites a creative, collaborative, and student-centered teacher-scholar to join our dynamic faculty. We seek a candidate with strong expertise in History/Social Studies content and innovative, research-based pedagogy, as well as a demonstrated ability to engage in interdisciplinary work across the college. The primary role of the successful candidate will be to teach in the newly redesigned Secondary Education History/Social Studies Program, which leads to Social Studies teacher certification in Rhode Island. Responsibilities include teaching History/Social Studies Methods courses and supervising candidates in both the Practicum and Student Teaching semesters. Additional responsibilities include supporting RIDE accreditation efforts in collaboration with the Departments of Educational Studies and History, building professional relationships with local educators and school partners, teaching introductory or advanced History and Social Studies courses as needed, and advising undergraduate students in the major. Required Qualifications Doctorate in education, History, or related field (ABD if completed by August 2026). 3 or more years of experience teaching at the undergraduate level, primarily pre-service and/or in-service teacher education. 3 or more years of experience teaching at the K-12 level Preferred Qualifications 3 or more years of experience as a social studies teacher, with at least two years teaching in a public-school setting.
