Histology Lab AssistantThe histology lab assistant ensures that cases will be signed out with accuracy and in a timely manner. This position is responsible for organizing slides in folders; applying labels; collaborating with requisitions and dispatching to the appropriate pathologist according to the established schedule. The lab assistant will follow the direction of his supervisor while taking initiative in performing and promoting quality and efficiency within the department.Job Requirements:Assemble all materials needed at the tableSort frozen section slides, bone marrow slidesArrange requisition according to locationSpecimen entry, numbering slidesSorting cases according to priority for courier pick-upMaintaining safety standards and documentation of the histology lab according to guidelines and protocolsPrepare and package cases for delivery and courier pick-upStream-line and prioritize work loadAssist in filing blocksCommunicate department activities with supervisorAssures activities of the histology department are coordinated to insure quality patient care and lean processes of the departmentConsults with LIS personnel to troubleshoot LIS problems and enhancementsParticipates in the development of department-wide policies and proceduresMaintains all section records relating to operationReviews and summarizes records and prepares reports for management reviewDevelops and maintains cooperative working relationships with clients and SEPA pathologistsProvides advice and direction to subordinates for technical problems encounteredExplains and demonstrates appropriate techniques or methods as necessaryPerforms routine procedures in achieving workload demandsSkills/Qualifications:High school diploma or GEDMust be able to communicate effectively by telephone, e-mail and in person with customers, co-workers and supervisorsAbility to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
