Job Description

Positions are 210 days/year, 5 (1pm-6pm) or 6.5 (7-8:30am and 1:00-6pm) hours/M-F. Positions may be split-shift. The eligibility list will be valid for 6 months. Application process includes: Training and Experience Evaluation, General Fitness Exam, and Structured Oral Interview. Basic position function includes planning, coordinating, and overseeing child care program activities in a designated child care center.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Develop written lesson plans and objectives for preschool and elementary age children. Design, implement, and maintain site programming and classroom environment. Establish and maintain files and records related to the program. Perform operational activities incidental to the operation of the program. Assist in coordinating schedules of assigned center staff. Provide information and respond to inquiries from parents and the public. Attend staff meetings, parent meetings, and trainings. Organize and coordinate fundraisers and field trips. Collaborate with school site administration and staff. Maintain ongoing communication with parents and conference as needed. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

High School diploma or an equivalent. Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development and/or Teaching Credential as issued by the State of CA are highly desirable. A minimum of two (2) years of recent experience in child care and education service, in a structured childcare/preschool program. Completion and/or enrollment in at least one (1) three (3) unit course in early childhood education prior to completion of the six (6) months probationary period. Valid First-Aid and CPR Certificates shall be obtained for permanency in this classification (within 6 months of employment) and must be renewed as necessary during employment.

Knowledge of theory and practice of early childhood and/or school-age education. Ability to learn and apply rules and regulations involved in assigned program functions. Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Ability to set appropriate boundaries with children and adults utilizing conflict resolution skills and proactive communication. Ability to comprehend and follow directions given verbally and in writing. Ability to demonstrate mental acuity sufficient to perform the essential functions of the position. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to apply principles of creativity and flexibility in executing program functions. Ability to establish and maintain a safe and healthful environment. Ability to establish and maintain basic filing systems for program required recordkeeping. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with children and parents, program staff and the public. Ability to develop and implement behavior plan as needed to address challenging student behaviors and address individual children's needs.

Medical/Prescription Insurance: Employees holding regular/permanent positions at 27.5 or more hours per week shall be eligible to participate in a variety of District plans. Employee contribution amount towards a premium varies based on medical plan. Family coverage is also available with an additional employee monthly paid premium. Dental Insurance: Employees holding regular/permanent positions at 30.0 or more hours per week shall be eligible to participate in the District-paid coverage for family dental insurance. Vision Care Insurance: Employees holding regular/permanent positions at 30.0 or more hours per week shall be eligible to participate in the District-paid coverage for family vision insurance. Holidays: Up to fourteen paid holidays per year. Life Insurance: Employees holding regular/permanent positions at 30.0 or more hours per week shall be eligible to participate in the District-paid coverage for family life insurance. Vacation: Employees with one to three years of service earn 12 vacation days per year (employees working less than 12 months shall earn vacation on a pro rata basis). The number of vacation days earned increases with longevity up to 20 days per year after 15 years of service. Sick Leave: One day per month, cumulative from year to year (employees working less than 12 months shall earn sick leave on a pro rata basis). Retirement: Employees holding regular/permanent positions at 4 or more hours daily AND at least 20 hours weekly are covered by Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and Social Security. Employees holding positions that are fewer than 4 hours per day or 20 hours per week are enrolled in APPLE, an alternative to Social Security. Contributions are made by both the employee and employer. Salary Step Movement: First day of fiscal year (July 1st) for those employees in working status at least 75% of work year. Longevity Compensation: Upon completion of 7, 10, 14, 20, 24, and 29 years of service from the hire date, employees receive an additional 2 1/2% salary increase. Representation: Classified staff (with the exception of Campus Safety Assistants) are represented by Chapter 620, CSEA.
