Senior Electrical Engineer

Contract: 1-year assignment with possible extension up to 3 years; conversion possible Work Schedule: 4/10s, day shift (see Contract Details) Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” clearance About the Role We are recruiting on behalf of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for an Electrical Engineer (Level 3) to support the Plutonium Rapid Response Team. This senior role performs a full range of design engineering responsibilities in support of facility design, operation, and maintenance, applying broad and diversified knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, and DOE-complex requirements in the preparation of complex engineering analyses. The work centers on low-power electrical design (typically under 480V; 208V and 120V are common) including conductor sizing, conduit sizing, and junction boxes. You will review and develop internal and engineered designs, produce and interpret construction documentation, provide system integration across disciplines, and lead projects and process improvement as part of a multi-discipline team in a secure, fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Perform conventional electrical engineering design, analysis, and calculations, with emphasis on low-power applications (conductor and conduit sizing, junction boxes). Develop, review, and support engineering design packages and construction documents and specifications. Produce and interpret construction documentation as a core engineering responsibility. Provide system integration within and across engineering disciplines. Provide construction, field, and project engineering support, including field mitigation. Review LAP-4 and internal designs and support design changes requested by the team. Lead projects and supervise the work of others as assigned. Lead work process improvement to meet customer needs, and apply engineering technology to deliver high-quality work. Interface with stakeholders across disciplines in a fast-paced environment. Required Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required, with approximately 8–9 years of relevant electrical engineering experience aligned with the responsibilities above. This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. Top Skills & Requirements Electrical power design experience, with low-power emphasis (under 480V; 208V and 120V common). Experience producing and interpreting construction documentation and specifications. Experience facilitating and developing engineering design packages. Field engineering / field mitigation experience. Proven knowledge of commonly applied codes and standards at DOE and DoD facilities (e.g., NQA-1, IBC, NFPA, NEC). Experience with computer-aided design/drafting software or markup tools. Control systems experience is useful but not required. Security Clearance This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” clearance. U.S. citizenship is required (with very limited exceptions), and candidates must be at least 18 years of age. An active clearance is not required at the time of hire. The position is 100% on-site with no remote work. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience leading projects or supervising other engineers. Duration 1-year assignment with possible extension up to 3 years. Conversion to a permanent position is also possible. Extension and conversion are at the discretion of the hiring manager and are not guaranteed. Work Schedule 4/10s, day shift. After a training period (Tuesday–Friday, 10-hour shifts), employees may move to a weekend-inclusive schedule such as Friday–Monday, 10-hour shifts. Shift assignments are determined by management based on operational needs. Overtime is not expected. Per Diem Per diem is available. Relocation assistance is not provided.
