Responsibilities include: Provide emergency, health, and personal care services to patients; interact therapeutically with patients; observe, report, and document patient conditions and behaviors in an electronic record; participate in individualized and unit-based programming. Maintain direct and ongoing therapeutic interactions with patients to promote living and social skills and progress toward a lesser restrictive environment. Contribute to recovery team documentation and participate in shift reports and recovery team meetings. Perform delegated nursing duties within competency; may provide guidance to the PNA Is. Work under general supervision with limited initiative; understand duties, location, and shift patterns may change. Possess awareness of exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials; maintain HIPAA-compliant access to a limited set of records. Performs other duties as assigned to ensure efficient operation of the patient care unit and participate in disaster response/COOP activations as needed. Essential Job Functions (EJFs) Attends work regularly and may be required to work a specific or rotating schedule, extended shifts, and overtime in accordance with agency leave policy. Supports the implementation of individualized recovery plans and provides ongoing patient support. Uses therapeutic, person-centered communication to engage patients, assists with activities of daily living, hygiene, and eating to promote independence, and accompanies patients to appointments as required. Communicates effectively with team members to promote a positive workplace. Participates in recovery/admissions teams and documents patient information clearly and timely. Uses basic computer skills for patient care documentation and reporting. Assists the licensed nurse with monitoring medications and treatments, including vital signs, within competency. Promotes safety through environmental awareness and positive patient engagement. Co-facilitates classes and programs and may co-facilitate groups as requested. Responds to crisis or psychiatric emergencies using the least restrictive intervention possible (TIPS) under RN supervision. Performs CPR/Heimlich and AED per American Heart Association guidelines. Provides timely clinical information to the RN to promote safety. In the absence of higher-level PNAs, may provide guidance and preceptorship to PNAs under RN direction. Serves on unit-based and hospital-wide committees to support quality improvement, patient safety, and strategic planning. Qualifications Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs): Knowledge of patient care techniques and recovery programs. Knowledge of basic computer skills. Interpersonal and leadership skills to work with team members. Skills in taking vital signs. Ability to read, write, and understand English; follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to provide patient care, administer first aid/CPR, and conduct TIPS. Ability to work with others and accept supervision; ability to train and provide guidance to others. Registrations, Licensure Requirements Or Certifications: If transporting patients, must possess a valid Texas driver license or obtain within 90 days; out-of-state license requires original certified driving record. CPR certification or the ability to obtain within 60 days of employment. Initial Screening Criteria: Twelve (12) months of work experience. Additional Information: Twelve (12) months of direct care experience is preferred. Applicants must pass background checks, drug screen, and registry checks. Males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service. Must be at least 18 years old (Waco Center for Youth: 21+). Flexible hours; overtime may be required.
