Qualifications This is an interdisciplinary temporary position and may be filled by a Civil Engineer (0810-series), a Mechanical Engineer (0830-series), or a Naval Architect (0871-series) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the ND-04 (GS-12/13 Equivalency) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following as professional engineer: independently performing and reviewing structural analysis of submarine structures, such as pressure hull shells and frames, bulkheads and tanks, using analytical calculations and finite element analysis (FEA); communicating technical information to Navy leadership related to the design, evaluation, and certification of submarine structure through technical documentation and oral presentations; executing structural engineering evaluations through the systematic application of submarine design processes, material science principles, and the interpretation of welding and non-destructive testing results; training, developing, and providing oversight of new engineers in the execution of submarine structural engineering tasking.
Examples of Expertise in Submarine Structures:
1) Possesses expert knowledge of submarine structure design, failure mechanisms, and certification processes, including pressure hulls, tanks, and bulkheads. This includes a broad understanding of related technologies like shock, hydrodynamics, and acoustics.
2) Analytical & Technical Proficiency: Demonstrates the ability to independently perform and oversee structural calculations and finite element analysis for full scale and experimental scale pressure hull structures.
3)Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Has the ability to review, approve, and direct research and dvelopment studies of submarine structures, manage multiple projects, and develop and execute strategic plans to close identfied technology gaps. Capable of providing expert guidance, mentoring, and training to other engineering personnel.
4) Advanced Communication & Collaboration: Exhibits advanced technical writing and oral presentation skills to communicate complex information to high-level personnel. Proven ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external technical groups.

- You will be the spokesperson for assigned knowledge areas (CD 15.02 R and Sub Pressure Hull Structure, CD 15.03 Experimental Model D and T of Pressure Vessels), providing technical guidance, oversight, and strategic direction.
- You will oversee knowledge area management plans, including annual capability assessments, manpower capacity reviews, and the development of quality management guidelines and standard operating procedures.
- You will execute, review, and provide guidance for technical tasks, work products, and reports aligned with the assigned knowledge areas.
- You will require expert knowledge of submarine structure design, failure mechanisms, design procedures, and design philosophy, including pressure hull shell and frames, tanks, bulkheads and deep submergence system structures.
- You will require broad-based knowledge of submarine technologies including shock, hydrodynamics, and acoustics as they pertain to structural design and impact.
