Principal Software Engineer - HPC

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• We require formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, along with 10+ years of applied experience.
• We need hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
• We look for advanced knowledge of software application development and technical processes, with deep expertise in one or more areas such as large language models or high-performance computing.
• We require 8+ years of experience in high-performance computing software.
• We require 5+ years of experience with at least one type of accelerator.
• We require 3+ years of experience in deep learning, particularly large language models.
• We need strong programming ability in Python and at least one systems language such as C or C++, plus experience with AI/ML frameworks such as PyTorch.
• We look for demonstrated experience designing and leading adoption of agentic AI-enabled development practices across teams, including standards for human-in-the-loop validation, auditability and traceability, and secure handling of sensitive data.
• We need a strong understanding of responsible AI use and control expectations in engineering workflows, including security and resiliency implications, data sensitivity, and risk-based governance.
• A PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Practical cloud-native experience is preferred.
• Hands-on experience with CUDA for GPU programming and performance optimization is preferred.
• Experience in large organizations and regulated industries is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic team environment are preferred.

• We design and implement complex, scalable software frameworks using suitable architecture patterns.
• We develop secure, high-quality production code and review, debug, and improve code written by other engineers.
• We lead technical design reviews and advise cross-functional partners on solutions within our area of expertise.
• We create reusable performance patterns and benchmarking approaches to optimize model training and inference across compute architectures.
• We define and use telemetry and measurable performance indicators to guide hardware and software decisions.
• We mentor and enable the developer community in high-performance computing practices that intersect with AI/ML.
• We architect and govern agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows using enterprise-authorized tools to improve delivery speed, code quality, and operational outcomes at scale, while defining guardrails for validation, security, resiliency, and reuse across teams.
• We apply knowledge of tools within the software development life cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to increase the value delivered by automation at scale.
• We collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and product partners to enhance, build, and deliver trusted technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way.
• We help teams make informed tradeoffs across low latency, throughput, and efficiency, grounded in telemetry and operational outcomes.
