The Registered Nurse (RN) for the Intermediate Care Night Shift provides skilled nursing care on a 42-bed unit divided equally between medical-telemetry and medical step-down patients. The RN is responsible for managing complex cases including pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, diabetic emergencies, sepsis, and respiratory failure. This role requires experience with tracheostomies, ventilators, high-flow nasal cannula, cardiac drips, BiPAP, and telemetry monitoring. The nurse collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality patient care in a fast-paced hospital environment. Responsibilities:
- Provide skilled nursing care to patients in intermediate care and medical-telemetry settings.
- Perform patient assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning.
- Manage care for patients with conditions such as pneumonia, COPD exacerbation, DKA, HHS, alcohol withdrawal, gastrointestinal bleeding, sepsis, pulmonary embolism, urinary tract infection, and respiratory failure.
- Operate and monitor advanced respiratory support devices including tracheostomies, ventilators, high-flow nasal cannula, and BiPAP.
- Monitor cardiac telemetry and manage cardiac drips.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care and discharge planning.
- Float between medical-telemetry and intermediate care units as needed.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and clinical observations.
- Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Massachusetts.
- Minimum 1-2 years of clinical experience in medical-telemetry, intermediate care, or related acute care settings.
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications.
- Experience with tracheostomy care, ventilators, high-flow nasal cannula, BiPAP, telemetry monitoring, and cardiac drips.
- Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
- Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Experience working in medical step-down or intermediate care units.
- Familiarity with managing complex respiratory and cardiac patients.
- Additional certifications related to critical care or telemetry nursing.
- Must be willing to float between medical-telemetry and intermediate care units.
- Position requires night shift work in a hospital setting.
- Compliance with Massachusetts Placement Agency License and Temporary Nursing Service Agency License required for agency staff.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with critically ill patients.
- Night shift schedule on the Intermediate Care Unit.
- Shift assignments may include floating between medical-telemetry and intermediate care sides of the unit.
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:3 in intermediate care, 1:6 in medical-telemetry.
