Loveland High School Custodian

Provide a clean and safe environment for students and staff by performing the following duties.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• One to two years related experience desired

Professional Expectations:

Report to work regularly and on time, prepared to perform appropriately assigned duties throughout the day, in service to students, staff, and the community. Prepare for and perform all assigned duties required by one's job description in a positive and collaborative manner. Follow justifiable directives issued by the established chain of authority with a learning-oriented attitude and seek support when needed. Identify, report, and/or if possible control unsafe conditions or safety hazards in order to maintain safe and secure working and learning environments. Demonstrate professional respect and integrity when interacting with students, parents, staff, community members and other stakeholders. Comply with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines that prohibit coercive, harassing, threatening, retaliating, bullying or discriminating conduct. Manage District property and assets in an ethical and responsible manner in accordance with federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines. Maintain confidentiality of information as required under federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines. Report actions, through the appropriate chain of authority, that may represent violations of federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines. Refrain from unethical activity that may reasonably interfere with the legitimate operational interests and goals of the District. Comply with all other federal laws, state statutes, Board policies, and related administrative guidelines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Secure building; check building to assure maximum security
• Attend meetings and in-services as required
• Maintain a daily work routine as established by the Head Custodian and Buildings and Grounds Supervisor to adequately service the buildings, grounds, and person
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
• Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, agencies, intervention specialists or members of the school community
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Sweeping, vacuuming, mopping and waxing floors
• Emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, trash pails, and pencil sharpeners
• Removing cobwebs and cleaning windows
• Polishing furniture and woodwork
• Cleaning and maintaining custodial equipment and materials
• Cleaning and sanitizing assigned school, e.g., restrooms, classrooms, spills, etc.
• Helping with setup and cleanup for various school activities
• Using, measuring and relabeling chemicals per OSHA standards
• Cleaning carpets
• Washing all furniture, walls, halls, windows, window seals, and doors
• Disinfecting water fountains
• Spot mopping and mopping classrooms
• Removing writing on walls
• Adjust to various locations and work requirements as needed, perform other duties as assigned by the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor and Head or Lead Custodian
• Perform minor repairs, including, but not limited to, repair desk, painting
• Request needed equipment, materials and supplies
• Perform seasonal duties such as salting and snow removal, litter removal, as directed by the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor and Head or Lead Custodian
• Refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers and bathroom tissue in school building restrooms
• Secure building, check building to assure maximum security
• Attend meetings and in-services as required
• Maintain a daily work routine as established by the Head or Lead Custodian and Buildings and Grounds Supervisor to adequately service the buildings, grounds, and person
• Remain alert for dangerous, hazardous conditions, or items in need of maintenance
• Set up equipment and furniture for special events and use of building for school and community functions
• Clean hallway glass display cases
• Clean school building lounges
• Replace light bulbs as needed
• Scrub, strip, seal, and wax floors
• Assist in the control of all maintenance and custodial tools and supplies
• Assist work crews on assigned tasks
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Buildings Ground's Supervisor and Head or Lead custodian
