PURPOSE
The Instructor Commission develops and presents instructional classes for the Parks and Recreation Department. Work hours will vary. This position reports to the Recreation Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This description is intended to indicate the essential functions and levels of work difficulty of the position and is not intended to describe in detail all of the position's specific duties and responsibilities nor exclude other duties of similar level or difficulty. Additionally, it is not intended to limit management's rights to assign, direct, and control the work of employees beyond the essential functions under their supervision. Interact and greet patrons, process transactions, and assist patrons. Utilize recreation management software to monitor activities and facilities, communicate with current/past participants, run reports for program and facility use, and other items as needed. Establish rapport with participants, facility patrons and the general public, respond to difficult situations and complaints, exercise independent judgement to recommend changes, correct and analyze public concerns and questions and resolve in a timely manner. Operate and maintain a variety of facility and program-related equipment and supplies to ensure that all programs, activities, and facilities operate at optimal levels. Assist the Recreation Coordinator in coordinating with groups to ensure that the recreation center and other facilities are utilized at the maximum level of efficiency, and that such facilities are adequately supervised and maintained during all activities and events. Develops instructional classes. Provides instruction to the Parks and Recreation Department and the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered.
Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or border state driver's license, as defined by NRS 483.
Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of safety Guidelines; safe working practices; instruction techniques and guidelines; demonstrates proper body mechanics and safe exercises for participants; department policies and procedures and health department guidelines.
Skill in customer service; providing functional instruction.
Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; work independently, with minimal supervision; communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing; analyze problems and develop and implement solutions; complete reports; understand, interpret, and apply department policies, procedures and health department regulations.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Supervisory classification: No Safety Sensitive: No May be required to work an alternative or flexible work schedule, outside of normal business hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT General Physical Requirements Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds unassisted.

Visual AcuityThe worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.
Working Conditions The work is typically performed at the Parks and Recreation facilities. Work may be performed outdoors in cold, hot, or inclement weather. Work may require the use of protective devices such as sunglasses, goggles, hats, etc.
