Adjunct Instructor (Applicant Pool)Department of EducationJob SummaryThe Department of Education in the College of Education and Professional Studies (CoEPS) at Fort Valley State University invites applications for part-time employment as an adjunct in one or more of the following program areas: Elementary/Special Education, Middle Grades Education (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading), Agriculture Education, and Health and Physical Education. We seek dynamic educators committed to preparing future teachers. The Adjunct Faculty member is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, supporting student learning, and upholding the academic standards and mission of the institution. This position is part-time and typically hired on a semester-by-semester basis based on enrollment and departmental need.Primary duties and responsibilities include:Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses within the assigned program area.Meet classes as scheduled and notify the appropriate Chair or Dean in advance of any anticipated absence.Remain accessible to students through email, phone, or scheduled office hours, arranging additional appointment time when necessary.Maintain accurate records of student academic standing and promptly submit final grades, attendance, and other required information.Respect the confidentiality of student information, disclosing it only within recognized legal and institutional limits.Evaluate students solely on academic performance and respond promptly to grade-related questions or appeals.Supervise clinical and field placements in partnership schools, as assigned.Collaborate with faculty to engage in scholarly activities such as attending or presenting at professional conferences and submitting articles to peer-reviewed journals.Participate in service-learning initiatives and community engagement projects.Contribute service to the department and the college, including committee work and community outreach.Collaborate with faculty and school partners to align coursework with state standards and accreditation requirements.Collaborate with faculty to prepare accreditation and program reports, as needed.Collaborate with faculty to collect, disaggregate, and analyze student performance and program data to support continuous improvement and accreditation requirements.Complete other duties as assigned. College of Education and Professional Studies ExpectationsIn addition to teaching, adjunct faculty are expected to be engaged members of the college community and to represent FVSU as responsible professionals. Accordingly, faculty members are expected to:Carry out professional responsibilities in alignment with the goals, mission, and plans of the department, program, division, and College.Fulfill all requirements outlined in CoEPS policies and procedures, including mandatory training.Attend and participate in required meetings.Submit grades, information or materials related to assigned duties in a timely manner, as requested by Fort Valley State University and Department of Education in the CoEPS.QualificationsMaster 's degree in the relevant teaching discipline or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution (terminal degree may be required for select programs).Must hold a valid teaching license/certification in one or more of the following areas: Elementary education, Special education, middle grades education, Secondary English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Reading, History, and/or Agricultural Education.Demonstrated content knowledge and, where applicable, relevant professional or teaching experience in the assigned subject area.Ability to meet all credentialing standards required by the College's accrediting bodies (e.g., GaPSC, SACSCOC, or program-specific accreditors).Experience teaching in a traditional classroom setting.Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into teaching.Demonstrated ability to teach, advise, and supervise field-based programs.Demonstrated ability to foster relationships with colleagues and students.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey subject matter clearly and provide timely, substantive feedback.Ability to collect, disaggregate, and analyze student performance and program data to support continuous improvement and accreditation requirements. Preferred QualificationsPrior experience teaching at the college or university level.Experience with online or hybrid course delivery and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, or Brightspace).A record of scholarship, professional service, or K-12 practitioner experience relevant to the assigned discipline.
