Vehicle Operator

This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), at the Hampton VA VA Medical Center. The position serves as a Motor Vehicle Operator under the Environmental Management Service with the Transportation Section. The primary duties of the position are to transport patients, medical equipment, supplies, and other items essential to the operation of a VA Medical Center. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/11/2026. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Effort is required to control vehicles that carry large numbers or people or heavy loads. Make frequent arm and leg movements to operate various controls. Driver may be required to assist patients into and out of vehicle, which involves physical exertion and frequent stopping and bending. Considerable physical exertion may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs such as installing an emergency fan belt or replacing an electrical fuse on open highways. Operates vehicles in all types of weather and traffic conditions and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Drives in heavy and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems. Works inside and outside and is subject to drafts, noise and varying temperatures. Exposed to weather and temperature extremes, Exposed to high noise levels, vibrations and jolts. Exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and fumes. Follows prescribed safety practices. #J-18808-Ljbffr
