Job Details: Job Location: Downtown - Kalamazoo, MI, Position Type: Part Time, Salary Range: $19.40 - $19.40Hourly, Social Media Coordinator Part Time: 18-20 hours per week Temporary: Soonest date to 12/18/2026 Hourly Rate: $19.40 Position Summary Support the organization’s mission by amplifying stories of student success, increasing community awareness, and strengthening engagement with families, supporters, partners, and advocates through strategic social media and digital communications. This role is responsible for developing, creating, scheduling, and monitoring content across the organization’s social media platforms while showcasing the impact of our mission, elevating community voices, and inspiring deeper engagement, advocacy, and philanthropic support. The Social Media Coordinator will create engaging content including photos, videos, graphics, interviews, and success stories; maintain content calendars; support website and blog content; and monitor platform performance to help strengthen audience engagement and organizational visibility. The ideal candidate is passionate about mission-driven storytelling, understands social media best practices, and can transform meaningful experiences into compelling digital content that grows audience engagement, expands community awareness, and inspires action in support of student success. This position plays an important role in connecting day-to-day communications efforts to the organization’s broader mission by helping stakeholders understand the impact of their involvement and investment in student success. Core Competencies & Responsibilities Team Contribution Develop and maintain social media content calendars that support organizational goals. Create, schedule, and publish mission-focused content that educates, inspires, and engages current and prospective supporters. Monitor audience engagement, foster meaningful online conversations, and help build an active and supportive digital community. Ensure content aligns with brand and messaging standards. Create written, visual, and video content that highlights student success, organizational impact, community partnerships, donor support, and opportunities for audience involvement. Conduct interviews and gather stories for digital channels. Support blog and website content development. Maintain a library of approved marketing assets. Identify and leverage opportunities to increase social media reach, audience growth, engagement, and mission awareness across digital platforms. Support campaigns that connect digital engagement to organizational goals, including student recruitment, fundraising, volunteerism, advocacy, and community partnerships. Management: Self Manages multiple tasks and priorities efficiently while maintaining a steady and productive work pace. Takes initiative, exercises sound judgment, and seeks clarification or direction when appropriate. Demonstrates integrity, reliability, adaptability, and professionalism under changing demands. Communication / Collaboration Coordinate with staff across departments to gather compelling social media content including success stories, impact, key activities. Maintain and share content calendars, campaign schedules, and key communication plans. Provide content recommendations, media assets, and draft messaging for review and approval. Monitor performance metrics and prepare regular reports highlighting audience growth, engagement trends, campaign effectiveness, and opportunities to expand mission reach. Identify opportunities to improve content effectiveness, audience engagement, and digital reach. Continuous Learning Builds and maintains strong knowledge of the organization’s mission, programs, impact stories, policies, and culture to authentically represent the organization online. Identifies and recommends improvements to systems, communication, and information management. Productivity & Systems Management Advocacy: Students and Families Maintains confidentiality and accuracy in handling student and family information. Demonstrates a commitment to equity, educational opportunity, and advancing positive outcomes for students and families through mission-centered communications. Service Orientation & Integrity Provides responsive, high-quality customer service to internal and external stakeholders. Ensures all content-related activities comply with organizational policies, student privacy requirements, and established approval processes. Responds promptly, professionally, and effectively to requests and inquiries. Working Environment & Physical Demands Office-based role in a well-lit, temperature-controlled environment; may involve noise and close proximity to others. Primarily sedentary, with extended periods of sitting (6–8 hours/day) and occasional standing or walking. Occasional lifting or carrying of office supplies or equipment up to 20 lbs. Requires sufficient vision and hearing for computer work, phone calls, and meetings. Requires sustained focus for extended computer-based tasks (3–4 hours). Qualifications: Requirements Experience: Managing professional social media accounts and creating content for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other relevant platforms. Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Canva. Knowledge of social media best practices, content planning, audience engagement strategies, and performance analytics. Experience creating graphics, short-form videos, and visual content utilizing Canva or similar design tools. Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences and platforms.
