We are seeking compassionate, dependable, and motivated Mental Health Skill Building (MHSB) Counselors to join our growing team.

Position Summary

As a Mental Health Skill Building Counselor, you will provide individualized, community-based services to adults diagnosed with serious mental illness. Counselors work directly with clients in their homes and throughout the community to teach and reinforce daily living skills that promote independence, recovery, and community integration.

This position is ideal for professionals who enjoy building meaningful relationships, working independently, and making a lasting impact in the lives of others.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one Mental Health Skill Building services in clients' homes and community settings.
• Teach and reinforce independent living skills including:
• • Personal hygiene and self-care
  • Medication management
  • Budgeting and money management
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Household organization and cleaning
  • Time management and scheduling
  • Transportation and community navigation
  • Employment readiness and vocational skills
• Assist clients in identifying personal goals and developing strategies to achieve them.
• Monitor client progress toward individualized service plan goals.
• Coordinate care with psychiatrists, therapists, primary care providers, case managers, and other community resources.
• Assist clients in accessing community resources, benefits, housing, employment opportunities, and medical appointments.
• Utilize evidence-based interventions and recovery-oriented practices.
• Maintain professional boundaries while establishing therapeutic rapport.
• Recognize and appropriately respond to crisis situations in accordance with agency policies.
• Complete all required Medicaid documentation accurately and within agency timeframes.
• Attend supervision, trainings, and required staff meetings.
• Maintain productivity expectations while providing high-quality services.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, Sociology, or a related human services field.
• Current registration with the Virginia Board of Counseling as a QMHP or QMHP-Trainee is required.
• Experience working with adults experiencing serious mental illness is strongly preferred.
• Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency with electronic documentation and Google Workspace is preferred.

Requirements

• Current QMHP or QMHP-T registration with the Virginia Board of Counseling (Required)
• Valid Virginia driver's license
• Reliable personal transportation
• Current automobile insurance
• Ability to travel throughout assigned service areas
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and Virginia Child Protective Services (CPS) registry check
• Ability to complete documentation electronically within required deadlines
