Hospital Medicine Physician for Gut Failure Program

Our organization is seeking applications for a full-time Hospitalist to become part of the newly established Gut Failure Program at our flagship facility, Emory University Hospital.

This exceptional role is situated within Emory University Hospital (EUH), a leading institution where we are working to enhance and standardize the care team responsible for managing patients with complex gut failure, in collaboration with the Department of Surgery and the Division of Gastroenterology.

• EUH is a quaternary care center with over 750 beds, staffed exclusively by faculty physicians across more than 70 subspecialties.
• Recognized as Georgia's top hospital, EUH is nationally ranked in various specialties, including cardiology, transplant, oncology, and neurosciences, and has received Magnet designation three times.
• The Gut Failure Program aims to treat patients with conditions such as fistulas, short bowel syndrome, peritoneal abscesses, complicated intestinal adhesions and obstructions, incisional and parastomal hernias (requiring complex abdominal wall reconstruction), complicated pancreatitis, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, and other digestive tract issues leading to intestinal resections and short gut syndrome.

• Devote at least 50% of clinical time to the Gut Failure Team to deepen expertise in managing gut failure patients, while the remaining time will involve rotations on other hospitalist services to maintain a broad skill set.
• Co-manage the medical care of gut failure patients by developing a comprehensive service aimed at optimizing care delivery for those with complex pathophysiology, in collaboration with General Surgery, Gastroenterology, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, dietary and psychology teams, and social work.
• Lead initiatives focused on quality and patient safety to improve patient outcomes and care management.
• Engage in academic responsibilities, promoting service excellence through education and mentorship of trainees and other team members.

• Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) with an active Georgia medical license or the ability to obtain one.
• Demonstrated history of effective teaching and successful mentoring in inpatient settings across various professions.
• Preferred: Experience in providing hospital medicine care at a high-acuity academic medical center.
