Hourly rate placement is contingent upon verification of related WA public school experience. Employment is contingent upon completion and verification of all required information and background check, with the fee to be paid by the applicant. This position is included in the classified staff non‑supervisory bargaining unit. Union shop requirements and the Collective Bargaining Agreement apply. Pay for contracted classified employees is distributed once a month on the last business day of the month. Pay for employees working less than a full year is spread through August. Eligibility for SEBB medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, and LTD is available if the employee anticipates reaching 630 hours in the school year. Eligibility for retirement is based on 3.50 hours per day or more for five or more consecutive months. Optional tax‑sheltered annuities: Omni 403(b) and Deferred Compensation Plan. Personal leave, vacation leave (for 260‑day employees only), and sick leave are prorated based on FTE. Work Year 180 days (scheduled student attendance days), 2.5 hours per day, 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Supervisor Responsible to: Head Cook, Assistant Head Cook, and Food Service Supervisor. General Responsibilities Under the direction of the Head Cook, Assistant Head Cook, and Food Service Supervisor, assist in the preparation and serving of all food items in the school kitchen. Minimum Qualification High school diploma or equivalent. Current food handlers permit. Position Responsibilities Work as directed in the daily preparation and serving of meals in the school lunch program. Operate food service cash registers, point‑of‑sale computers, and record meal participation using rosters. Assist in the clean‑up of preparation areas before and after meal service. Perform such other duties as may be assigned from time to time. Qualifications Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; previous experience with quantity food preparation and service. Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to present information effectively in one‑on‑one and small‑group situations to staff, students, and other employees. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with tens and hundreds; ability to perform these operations using units of United States currency, weight measurement, and volume. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work in a friendly manner with co‑workers, staff, and students; ability to maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and community; ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Board policies. Physical Demands Frequent walking and continuous standing; frequent bending or twisting at the neck and trunk; occasional reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; continuous hand strength to grasp tools; occasional lifting or moving up to 50 pounds (e.g., milk crates, frozen foods, canned foods). Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and color vision. Work Environment Occasional work in temperatures above 80 °F and occasional walking on slippery surfaces; deadline‑intensive work requiring severe time constraints; frequent interaction with the public and other workers; noise level is frequently loud, requiring raising voice; risk of minor injury such as cut or burn.
