Part-Time Psychiatrist

Indiana University (IU) Indianapolis Campus Health can fill in the gaps. We offer a variety of medical services at our on-campus clinic, so you can get the care you need to stay well. You can even access your medical information, like lab results, tuberculosis (TB) test results, and immunizations any time using the free and confidential patient portal.

Responsibilities

• Provides ongoing medication management and medication checks.
• Schedules appointments to monitor patient progress.
• Assesses treatment effectiveness and makes clinically appropriate adjustments.
• Works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team, including counselors, medical providers, and other stakeholders to ensure coordinated, high‑quality, and ethically sound care.
• Conducts comprehensive psychiatric and medical evaluations, including review of medical psychosocial histories, physical assessments as appropriate, and psychological testing when indicated.
• Diagnoses mental health conditions based on clinical findings and established diagnostic criteria; develops and implements individualized treatment plans, including psychopharmacological interventions and supportive psychotherapy.
• Prescribes and manages medication for mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
• Provides crisis assessment and intervention for complex and acute psychiatric conditions.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary providers to review treatment plans and patient progress.
• Analyzes clinical data and test results to inform diagnosis and treatment decisions.
• Maintains accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in accordance with institutional policies, legal requirements, and best practices.
• Compiles and maintains comprehensive patient records, including medical histories, treatment plans, and official health documentation, ensuring all records meet regulatory and institutional standards.

Education (Required)

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).

Work Experience (Required)

• Completion of an approved psychiatric residency.

Licenses and Certificates (Required)

• Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Indiana.

Skills (Required)

• Ability to consistently apply advanced clinical judgment.
• Ability to adhere to professional and regulatory standards.
• Experience working with a diverse student population.

The role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around a clinic environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
