Job Description:\n\nWe have a new opening for a full-time Physician - Pulmonologist at Eglin Hospital at Eglin AFB.\n\nJob Specific Duties: The type of work may include, but is not limited to, the following: \n• Perform a full range of physician services in accordance with privileges granted by the facility.\n • The physician shall perform a full range and spectrum of comprehensive specialty care onsite at the facility. Workload includes the evaluation and treatment of emergent, urgent, and non-emergent patients ranging in age as young as 18 years to over 65 years. Workload is a result of scheduled appointments, walk-ins to the clinic from other departments, walk-ins for specific diagnoses, telephone calls, and consult requests. The physician will practice within the guidelines set by the credentialing office of the 96 MDG and the Medical Director. The physician’s productivity is expected to be comparable to that of the other civilian and military Physician – Pulmonology assigned to the same facility/similar facilities and authorized the same scope of practice. The physician will meet the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) standard for Eglin Air Force Base for Relative Value Units (RVUs). The MGMA standard is updated annually during the fiscal year. It is the Contractor’s responsibility to contact Medical Logistics for an updated copy.\n • Shall participate in the inpatient care of critically ill patients. It is expected the physician will be a clinical leader and a patient advocate in the intensive care unit. The physician must be able to perform unsupervised and be able to supervise house staff performing critical care procedures such as, but not limited to: Endotracheal intubation with laryngoscope or bronchoscope; mechanical ventilation; establish vascular access with and without bedside ultrasound to include central venous lines, peripheral arterial catheterization, pulmonary artery catheterization, and hemodynamic measurements; use of vasoactive agents; bronchoscopy with appropriate biopsy techniques.\n • Direct, perform, or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals within the scope of the clinical privileges or responsibilities.\n • Examine, diagnose, treat or prescribe courses of treatment within the scope of training, experience, and privileges.\n • Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.\n • Order diagnostic tests as applicable as well as request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.\n • Technically proficient in directing and teaching other medical staff, providing educational lectures and participating in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members. Such direction and interaction will adhere to Government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocols.\n • Shall provide instruction for medical residents, medical students, physician assistant students, and/or students of other healthcare disciplines in the form of clinical rotations, didactics, and inpatient discussions as appropriate.\n • Shall coordinate pulmonary services with other medical activities.\n • Shall Diagnose and treat diseases. Prepares and reviews case histories and clinical records. Orders/performs diagnostic procedures including x-ray examinations, clinical laboratory tests, pulmonary function tests, and sleep studies. Interprets test results, evaluates examination findings, and treats appropriately. Prescribes such treatment for respiratory system diseases such as drugs, medical devices, respiratory therapy and devices, dietary regimens, oxygen therapy, and rehabilitation.\n • Shall see new patient consults and established follow-up clinic visits. The provider is expected to respond to telephone consults.\n • Shall provide critical care consults to patients admitted to ICU and assist primary teams in their patient management. Provide pulmonary consultative services for hospital inpatients. Provide inpatient consultative services and follow-up for patients with pulmonary disorders; as well as provide education/teaching to staff members of other disciplines/specialties, medical residents/students, and other personnel involved in patient care. The physician will be expected to be on call from the local area on a rotating basis.\n • Shall participate in the inpatient care of critically ill patients. It is expected the physician will be a clinical leader and a patient advocate in the intensive care unit. The physician must be able to perform unsupervised and be able to supervise house staff performing critical care procedures such as, but not limited to: endotracheal intubation with laryngoscope or bronchoscope; initiation of mechanical ventilation; understand and prescribe nutritional support; establish vascular access with and without bedside ultrasound to include central venous lines, peripheral arterial catheterization, pulmonary artery catheterization and hemodynamic measurements; use of vasoactive agents; bronchoscopy with appropriate biopsy techniques.\n • The physician will address patient expectations and requirements, establishes level of need and priority of care in accordance with established policies and procedures.\n • Shall coordinate patient care with community health agencies and social programs. The physician will facilitate continuity of care for patients. Has knowledge of a wide variety of resource agencies available in the military treatment system to ensure proper and expedient referral of the patient and/or family member.\n • Shall provide immediate evaluation and management of emergency problems as they occur and shall respond appropriately to clinical emergencies.\n • The physician may provide other health care services not specifically listed for which training/credentials are held and privileges have been awarded by the facility Commander.\n • Shall consult with medical personnel, legal authorities, and military commanders as required.\n • Shall follow DoD, Air Force and facility regulations and policies.\n • Shall be guided by the facility formulary for prescriptions. Drugs not appearing on the formulary must be pre-approved by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.\n • Shall possess basic knowledge of established clinic standards of care and Joint Commission requirements for clinical and documentation protocols, safety, infection control, performance improvement, etc., to insure compliance with policies and provide consistent training and guidance for clinic staff and in the Intensive care unit.\n • Shall ensure patient and staff safety through safety awareness, proper infection control and promotion of clean, orderly clinic environment. Recognizes, reports, and corrects potential safety hazards.\n • Documentation. Contractor employees shall prepare all documentation to meet or exceed established facility standards, to include, but not limited to: timeliness, accuracy, content, and signature. Contractor employees shall only use facility and Air Force-approved abbreviations for documentation in the patient health records and follow the facility’s Do Not Use Abbreviation List. (AFI 44-172 / AFI 48-123, Medical Examinations and Standards, 5 November 2013)\n • Medical Records Documentation. Health care providers shall complete medical records documentation within 72 business hours of the encounter with the patient.\n • Coding. Contractor employees shall use the proper coding of procedures and treatment, and shall maintain coding accuracy (CPT/E&M/procedure) at the same standard, 90% or higher, as military and civil service health care providers engaged in comparable work.\n • Shall be responsible for creating, maintaining and disposing of only those Government records which are specified by the 96 MDG.\n • Shall possess basic knowledge of and ability to demonstrate leadership skills in order to provide guidance, counseling, training and professional evaluation.\n • Shall possess basic knowledge in management and daily operation of a clinic servicing a large number of patients with a variety of healthcare needs and illnesses.\n • May be asked to participate/direct committees, programs or clinical services directly related to area of clinical responsibility or privileges. The physician may be assigned ICU director duties.\n • Shall direct supporting Government employees assigned to them during the performance of clinical duties. Guides the performance of assigned personnel. Uses team approach toward staff and patient management.\n • Shall perform administrative duties that may include maintaining statistical records of his or her clinical workload, participating in medical educations programs, and participating in quality improvement functions and other duties as prescribed by the Flight Commander.\n• Shall attend and participate in meetings, professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities such as, but not limited to the following: quality improvement meetings, professional staff meetings, commander's staff meetings, flight meetings, and other meetings required by applicable regulations, facility guidance, or as directed by the flight Commander or his/her designated representative.\n • Shall participate in military specific training as directed by the Flight Commander or AF policy.\n • Shall possess basic knowledge of operating a wide variety of medical equipment/non-medical equipment to ensure patient and staff safety, proper equipment maintenance and accessibility.\n • Shall treat patient information, no matter how developed, as privileged information. Patient information shall not be disclosed or revealed in any way for any use outside the facility without prior written permission by the Chief of Hospital Services.\n • Shall respect and maintain the basic rights of patients, demonstrating concern for personal dignity and human relationships. Providers receiving complaints validated by the FRED, COR and Chief of the Medical Staff shall be subject to counseling and, depending on the nature and severity of the complaint, separation from performing services under this contract.\n • Shall maintain open and professional communication with members of the facility staff, facility customers, and other contractor employees. COR will report valid complaints in writing to the CO for action. Valid complaints will be considered a performance failure. The contractor shall resolve all substantiated complaints immediately upon notification of the complaint, and no later than the suspense date provided by the CO, or designated representative.\n • Shall seek and maintain interpersonal relationships with clients/families and coworkers which contribute to mission accomplishment.\n • Shall possess basic knowledge of various training methods and interpersonal skills in order to develop a rapport with the patients and co-workers during which instructional and education information is presented and a supportive, trusting relationship is established.\n • Shall possess ability to acquire and use basic computer skills to enter patient data and extract patient’s information, from a variety of sources to include Composite Health Care System (CHCS), Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Technology Application (AHLTA) and Integrated Clinical Database (ICDB).\n \nWork Schedule:\nNormal schedule is Monday - Friday, 9 hours between 7:00am and 4:00pm, with a one-hour lunch. \nOn-Call required, rotated equally among providers in the department. Will occur approximately every 3 weeks / 18 weeks per year.\nRequirements\nMinimum Qualifications:\n\n Degree: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.). \n Education: Graduation from a medical school in the United States, Canada, or approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (AMA), graduation from a college of osteopathy approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or graduation from a medical school with evidence of Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification. \n Residency/Fellowship: Successful completion of a Residency or Fellowship in Internal Medicine and Pulmonology.\n\n Experience: 1) At least 24 months experience within the last 36 months. 2) Must be capable of performing the full range of pulmonology services to include critical care and sleep medicine. 3) Must be able to take care of critically ill patients and perform the procedures required for critical care.\n Preferred Experience (but not necessary): 1) Prefer military experience and prior experience working with/at a military treatment facility. 2) Prefer experience with DoD Electronic Medical Records (EMRs), such as Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS, AHLTA, CHCS, and Essentris. 3) Prefer procedural experience with bronchoscopy to include use of a cryoprobe, biopsy, argon plasma coagulator, and bronchial thermoplasty. 4) Prefer experience treating severe asthma using newer agents such as biologic agents.\n\n Board Certification: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pulmonary Disease.\n Life Support Certification: Possess current American Heart Assoc or American Red Cross BLS and ACLS certifications.\n Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to in a state, territory commonwealth or the Distric of Columbia. \n Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.\n\nWe are an equal opportunity employer and a drug free workplace.
