Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking a skilled Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our inpatient team. The successful candidate will manage the comprehensive care of post-operative orthopedic patients from their initial recovery phase to final discharge coordination. This role involves performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests to monitor recovery and identify complications, and collaborating closely with our orthopedic surgeons to formulate and execute effective, patient-centered treatment and rehabilitation plans. The NP will focus on wound care, early mobilization, and patient and family education to ensure a smooth transition of care and prevent readmissions in our fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting environment that is innovative, efficient and centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.

The Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse who utilizes a high degree of knowledge, skill and competence in a specialized patient care area. This position assesses, diagnose, prescribes, initiates plan of care and evaluates outcomes within the scope of a formal collaborative practice agreement with physician(s).

Responsibilities include participating in professional development, managing the health care of patient populations with compassion through advanced health assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and evaluation in a collaborative practice agreement with a physician. The NP coordinates the care of patient populations, in a collaborative practice agreement with a physician, to ensure promotion of health and wellness through education of patients and families, coordination of services and placing referrals. The NP assesses development needs of staff and develops and delivers appropriate educational programs to meet staff needs. The NP develops treatment plans, treats patients with acute problems including illnesses and minor injuries following a predetermined protocol in a collaborative practice agreement with a physician.

Minimum requirements include a Master's Degree in Nursing (Accredited NP Program) and less than 2 years of experience. Supervisor experience is not required. Licenses and certifications required include Nurse Practitioner and RN.

Preferred requirements include a Doctorate in Nursing and 2-5 years of experience.
