Structural Design Engineer-Kiewit Nuclear Solutions-Lenexa, KS Location: Lenexa, KS, US; Kansas City, KS, US; Oak Ridge, TN, US; Knoxville, TN, US Requisition ID: 178488 Job Level: Mid Level Home District/Group: Kiewit Nuclear Solutions Market: Nuclear Employment Type: Full Time Position Overview As a Structural Design Engineer, you will be a part of a growing team that supports all aspects of the construction process by performing innovative design engineering through brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and/or reviewing structural calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, as well as mitigating risk to keep our construction crews safe. Depending on the project load, you may be asked to support in multiple capacities including estimating and production environments. Location The position is located in Lenexa, KS. Other locations may be considered. Responsibilities Performs intermediate calculations under the supervision of a more senior engineer. Solves problems using well-established scientific principles. Able to analyze data and understands the relationships and correlations. Ability to draw conclusions and present findings to senior leadership. Proactive about learning new information and skills. Under general supervision, analyze structures using various structural engineering software programs. Design buildings and building foundations, equipment platforms and foundations, pipe racks, and miscellaneous concrete and steel structures. Prepares quantities, cost estimates, and other supporting documentation for projects. Initiates development of personal objectives aligned with those of the organization. Seeks feedback and uses it effectively. Has good understanding of the complete design and has good input into ways of improving the design. Utilize codes and standards to complete assignments. Identifies the customers, both internally and externally. Handles various assignments, including rework, in timely manner to meet schedule deadlines. Performs assigned work efficiently and effectively to maximize productivity. Performs quality checks of the design in a team environment to ensure accuracy. Carries out assignments carefully while focused on details. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis) or architectural engineering minimum required. 2-4 years' minimum relevant experience in Nuclear, Power Generation, or Industrial preferred, but other experience will be considered. Receives limited instruction on routine work and detailed instruction on new assignment from more experienced engineer. Adjusts to varying demands of work and performs well. Communicates effectively orally and in writing. Presents ideas clearly and in a professional manner. Knowledgeable in engineering software, such as Staad Pro, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA, spMats, and Mathcad. Engineering in Training certificate (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE). Familiar with latest national and design codes such as IBC, ASCE, ACI and AISC. Participates on teams effectively. Accepts direction from the team. Individually contributes to success of the team. Supports project teams and departments in a positive and productive manner. Works well with others to accomplish common goals and objectives. Serves as point of contact for external or internal customers. Follows through on commitments made to internal and external customers. Able to manage multiple responsibilities with set expectations and meet deadlines. Embraces flexibility to succeed in changing environments and understand that engineering design is a progression that involves multiple iterations.
