Assistant Utility Billing Clerk

JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, the Assistant Utility Billing Clerk provides customer service to callers and visitors to the department and provides support to the department. This is accomplished by greeting customers, answering questions, providing assistance, and researching information. Other duties include taking payments for services, entering payments, and processing monies for deposit. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Receives and processes utility payments from the public, including mail, counter, and phone payments. Identifies, verifies, and maintains accounts or records per cash receipts or billings. Assists in the maintenance of individual customer accounts, such as setting up new accounts, posting payments to accounts, and generating work orders. Answers customer inquiries, both in person and on the phone, regarding account status, fees, and billing policies. Answers customer inquiries, both in person and on the phone, creates work orders for Public Works Department. Balances cash drawer daily for deposit. Maintains documentation by processing information, filing, and storing data. May perform other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Skill in the use of a personal computer and the ability to use various types of standard office equipment. Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills. Skill in processing payments accurately and with attention to detail. Must have basic knowledge of accounting clerical methods, forms, and techniques. Ability to work effectively and patiently with internal and external customers/citizens. Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent plus one to two (1-2) years of experience in water billing or related field would be preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license with a good driving record. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Sitting, walking, and standing, some pushing/pulling, repetitive movement of wrist and fingers during computer data input; reaching; 50-100% of day using computer; bending, squatting, kneeling, stair climbing, fine motor manipulation. Maintains static posture during sitting. Works indoors in a controlled environment 80% of the time, but may perform some functions outdoors for special events. #J-18808-Ljbffr
