MUHA Security Officer

Job Description Summary The Security Officer reports to the Medical Center Security Manager. Under general supervision, the Security Officer monitors and provides protection and security for facilities, premises, employees, patients and visitors. The Officer must be able to communicate tactfully with the general public and possess knowledge of methods of security in buildings and grounds institutions. Duties include routine, repetitive tasks following agreed protocols as set forth by the Manager of Hospital Security. The role involves shift work and occasional overtime. The Officer must use tact and communicate clearly with the public. Entity Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) Worker Type Employee, Regular Pay Details Hourly, Health-21, 40 hours weekly, shift work with possible overtime. Minimum Requirements High School Diploma and one year of relevant experience (Security, Law Enforcement, Fire Service, Emergency Medical Service, Behavioral Health, Counselor, Education, or Military). A Bachelor’s degree or other relevant certifications may be substituted for the required work experience. Must obtain and maintain the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety certification (IAHSS) within the first year of employment. Must have a valid South Carolina Driver’s License. Physical Requirements Continuous – 6‑8 hours per shift; Frequent – 2‑6 hours per shift; Infrequent – 0‑2 hours per shift. Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors, from elevated areas, confined/cramped spaces, kneeling, bending at the waist, squatting, and performing repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows/shoulders. Maintain tactile, olfactory, and visual/auditory acuity as required. Ability to lift & carry 15 lbs. unassisted; lift/lower 15 lbs. from/to floor or 36 inches unassisted; lift from 36 inches to overhead 15 lbs. Maintain 20/40 vision, hearing acuity (with correction), and ability to work in a latex‑safe environment. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
