Advanced Practice Provider, Internal Medicine-Pulmonary/Critical

The University of Texas Medical Branch

Overview The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) seeks to advance its tripartite mission of delivering high-value care, driving research, and cultivating excellence in medical education. We are investing in people, processes, and technology to create an environment where collaboration thrives and every role contributes to advancing medicine. The department includes more than 140 faculty and 46 Advanced Practice Providers and is committed to excellence across all mission areas. The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine (PCCSM) at UTMB leads in advanced respiratory, critical care, and sleep medicine services across four hospital campuses: Galveston, League City, Clear Lake, and Angleton-Danbury Campus. PCCSM provides comprehensive care for pulmonary, critical care, and sleep conditions, including obstructive and restrictive lung diseases, pulmonary vascular disease, lung cancer, and complex respiratory failure. Faculty lead in intensive care units, ambulatory pulmonary and sleep medicine, and promote evidence-based practices through multidisciplinary collaboration. The division also maintains a Sleep Medicine presence with diagnostic and therapeutic services through UTMB Sleep Centers. The ACGME-accredited Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program offers comprehensive training across all aspects of pulmonary and critical care medicine. Research spans clinical, translational, and basic science domains, with active projects in lung cancer and screening, COPD, ILD, pulmonary hypertension, and sleep-disordered breathing. Position Summary UTMB is seeking a full-time advanced practice provider within the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. This position emphasizes high-quality outpatient pulmonary and sleep medicine, active participation in teaching, and engagement in the academic mission of the department. The successful candidate will join a team of faculty and advanced practice providers dedicated to providing exceptional pulmonary and sleep medicine services, advancing clinical education, and contributing to scholarly and quality improvement initiatives. Essential Responsibilities Provide outpatient pulmonary and sleep medicine care, including evaluation, diagnosis, and longitudinal management of patients with conditions such as COPD, asthma, interstitial lung disease (ILD), pulmonary hypertension, lung nodules, and sleep disorders (e.g., obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia). Conduct new patient consultations, follow-up visits, and post-hospitalization transitions of care to ensure continuity and reduce readmissions. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including respiratory therapy, nursing, radiology, and surgery—for optimal patient outcomes. Contribute to curriculum development, clinical skills training, and pulmonary/sleep medicine-focused academic programs. Minimum Qualifications Nurse Practitioner (NP): Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited NP program Physician Assistant (PA): Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program Current, unrestricted Texas license as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) Preferred Qualifications Experience in Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine in an ambulatory setting.
